During the launch of the show it was widely reported by media articles and interview from the cast that the show is about how the character of Ram raises himself up with the help of the children from hitting rock bottom in the aftermath of his wife's death..

To show this concept, they need to establish some basic facts.. There are so many people amongst us who lost thier spouse, but not everyne hits the rockbottom.. What makes Ram lose himself in the depression? They needed to establish the strong love & bonding between the couple and also how Anu is the anchor in thier realtioship.. Even then just the pain of losing the love of your life is not enough to make a person fall into the pits.. More stronger reasons are needed, thats why they are establishing the guilt factor, how Ram is going through not just grief, but also the guilt of not able to save her and indirectly helping her to end her life. This powerful combination of grief and guilt would prove to be the strong trigger point in pushing him to depression.

They also needed to establish the characteristics of the daughter as she is supoosed to be anchoring her father in his times of need. For-that, they need to show her as a matured individual. It is true that most teenagers are fun loving, but they can also show the mature side when needed.

The last 16 epaiodes were dedicated to establishing these factors, and 95% of the scenes were realistic and relevant. For most part, the screen play had been tight, technical aspects very good, and some power packed performances. There were certainly some glitches here & there which probably cannot be avoided in a daily show.. A 2 hour movie is made for a better part of a year, with months spent on dubbing, editing, background music, and other technical aspects, whereas in a TV show, they need to do all the work, including shooing, editing, adding BG, etc for a half an hour episode in a day or day & half. Is it possible to achieve the same technical thoroughness?

From the time the first news about the show started circulating in the media, it was reported that the show is inspired from the movie Daddy. If that is the case, it is obvious that the leads of the show are the father - daughter duo.. Not all shows need to have a romantic couple as the leads. Having the Father - Daugther as the leads in one of the trendsetting facet of the show.. I don't know about the mindset of the audience, whether they can accept a show without a romantic pair at the helm.. But I certainly applaud this brave initiative by the makers to set a show based on the relationship between the father & daughter.. It is still possible that the daughter may have a romantic interst later in the show (after she grows up a bit more).

What I like most about the show is the subtlety in acting.. The grief and pain are shown so subtly and naturally, which is the reality in life. The grown up individuals cry, but mostly it is silent cry.. And they don't cry anywhere and everywhere, they can't afford to be... Along with the pain, they also need to carry on with the motion of living.. That is portrayed briliantly here.. Ram & Anu were suffering, but their suffering came out mostly when they were alone, that too in a very subtle way.. Rsm shed tears before and after he failed to switch off the system.. But his tears were of silent nature, not the loud typical soapy nature. The pain in his eyes, the trembling in his voice conveyed more sorrow than thousands loud cries could do..

What happens next seems to be a suspense, we know Ram will fall into depression.. But is he going to be punished by law (unfairly)for taking Anu's life? I mentioned in another post about the possibility of Ram taking the blame as a punishment for not being able to save Anu.. Or perhaps the kids will hate him for letting the mother go and choose to live with the grandfather? Or maybe the FIL will gain the custody of the kids on the grounds that Ram is not financially stable? So many possibilities and so many questions..

I can understand Ram's need of privacy in grieving.. And can also understand how he can't help but fall into depression .. But I hope , if there's going to be a separtion between him & kids, it is not initaited by him, but either forced (by law or the FIL) or because the kids choose to leave him.

Whatever happens, there is going to be more heartbreaks in the upcoming episodes, until the time comes when Ram will start raising from the pit and live upto his potential..

Geetha, good post! Yes, that is what interviews and media articles mentioned about a man hitting rock bottom and how he rises up from there with the help of his daughter. Maybe keeping in mind audience and trps, some changes might be made but I hope they do keep largely to what they had conceptionalised. I wouldn't want to see a another woman come in and sprout mahanta dialogues and make Ram come out of his depression. We can always see a 100 different shows for this.

I agree, not everyone hits rock bottom when they lose a loved one. They needed these 15 to 16 episodes to establish why this man hits rock bottom. Without these episodes, it would be difficult to understand why Ram goes through the guilt, trauma and depression. Pulling the plug as they say and helping a loved one to die is one of the most difficult things a person may have to decide and go through in life.

Some people may feel they should have started with the present, and then shown these 16 episodes as the past, shuttling between past and present scenes. But personally, I don't think this would have made the pain and sorrow they are portraying any less potent. And if they had started the show with a successful Ram and then shown these 16 episodes, it might have made the impact of the extreme love and pain the family has undergone, less powerful. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say. The makers are showing the life of the Ahuja family as it's happening.

Disha's character I think, is of paramount importance to the plot of this show. I agree, they needed to bring to the front, the strength and maturity this girl has.

The episodes, barring some scenes, were quite realistic and relevant. I agree with you here. And a daily show doesn't have the comfort of a movie. Most of the time, they are rushing towards telecast. In spite of that, they have done a pretty good job. Whether they will continue to do a decent job, is left to be seen. Shows and the original concept are always affected by channel directives and trps. Lets hope the new trp system actually does some good.

Yes, kudos to them if they do manage to stick to the father-daughter theme. Getting a romantic lead in for the father will kill the beauty of the show, I feel. I don't mind someone who will only and only be a friend to the father. But after showing so much of love between Ram and Anu, any other romantic interest will dilute what they have shown. But Indian shows have always felt that every protagonist must have a romantic interest...let's see. Maybe this show will be an exception or maybe not...

I agree with you, Geetha on the performances. Ram's emotions and pain have been brought out brilliantly by him. Subtle and yet, you can feel his pain...that's what a good actor makes you feel. His scenes with Anu at the hospital, especially...kudos to Ram for making us cry along with him. Gurdeep and the rest of the cast have done exceptionally well too.

Ram as Mr Walia and Ram as Mr Kapoor were both rich and powerful characters. Hats off to Ram for being able to portray a poor and ordinary man (yet extraordinary because of his love and commitment to his wife) with so much conviction. I am glad Ram chose this role...it's different from his usual larger than life roles.

I am looking forward to the next phase and what happens to Ram and the kids. I also think they will still show Gurdeep through flashback scenes. At least, that was mentioned during the interview/interviews.

I agree that Ram in jail is so much better than Ram abandoning his children. Let's see if the creatives go on this route.

Let's hope this show lives up to it's promise in the future too and the makers show us as much realism as is possible keeping the constraints of television in mind. Would like to see how Ram battles with his guilt and sorrow and rises up in life for his children and late wife. It will be a wonderful tribute to Anu if and when he becomes successful in the world of music. That was what she always wanted for Ram. Hopefully Sony also promotes and supports the show.
