Papa Rishi is furious that his son has been at the receiving end in the period extravaganza
Rishi Kapoor has been making news for his inane tweets since last week, but this evening he just got a bit too serious. Around 6 pm, Rishi called the Phantom Films group- Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl, Madhu Mantena, who have produced the film- to his Pali Hill bungalow to give them an earful.
Reason? His son Ranbir has not been paid Rs 12 crore for his upcoming film Bombay Velvet.
While Anurag responded to our text message with two words "What c**p", our sources rolled out the entire saga that led to the meeting.
The story goes that Ranbir was supposed to get Rs 32 crore plus 35 per cent of the profit (subject to realisation). The film is just a month away from hitting theatres and its leading man has received only Rs 20 crore till date.
But why?
An insider from the film's unit reveals, "The film was sold to Fox Star Studios for Rs 92 crore, thus producing a table profit of Rs 18 crore. But the film went over budget by at least Rs 10-15 crore. What do you do in such a scenario but cut corners?"
However, Rishi Kapoor is not taking it lying down.
A source close to the senior actor tells, "Why should corners be cut at Ranbir's end? At the meeting, Rishi told Phantom Films in no uncertain terms that his son's dues have to be paid ASAP. In fact, he has been frequently telling them this since the last two months, but the two companies in question have kept him at bay giving nothing but lame excuses."
Will the father and son complain to CINTAA (Cine & TV Artistes Association)? Or will Phantom Films prevail upon them to say that they don't have a solution since their coffers are empty? We shall soon know.
Was the event to launch the song, slated for Monday, cancelled because of high tempers in the Kapoor household? Ponder a while.
