Being Picky

by Soumita Sengupta (March 28, 2015)

In the last few years, we've watched many television actors making their debut to Bollywood but not everyone has succeeded or survived. But among all few have manage to bag the spotlight and one of them is Gurmeet Choudhary. This week, Box Office India chatted with Gurmeet Choudhary to know what they are working on. Over to them:

Life after Khamoshiyan

The response has been amazing. When the first song from the film, the title track, released, I started getting feedback on my look and performance. Many friends from the industry told me that the first impression is the last impression' and that I have stood out. Also, being my first release, I was excited as well as nervous. I am so glad the response has been positive.

It being a flop

I don't know whether it was a hit or a flop because on Monday, I received a call from (Mahesh) Bhatt saab, calling me to say they have recovered the money they had invested and this was one of the fastest recoveries made by them.

On Mahesh Bhatt, the mentor

From the very first time I met him, he has been like this ocean of knowledge. He has been a mentor from day one. He helped me every time I needed him. The Bhatt family gave me my first break and I will always be loyal to them.

On Film offers

Before Khamoshiyan, I was offered many films but I had decided that I would only choose known banners. So when Vishesh Films approached me, I knew I was going to do this film. I believed that I shouldn't take up just about ay offer simply to make my debut to films. So I waited for the right break.

Learning from TV

I have achieved whatever I have today because of television. I made my debut with Ramayan and everyone back then told me that I would become typecast in mythological shows. But I did many other shows too. After doing a few, I realised people began to recognise me by my television name, not my own name. That's when I decided to do reality shows. After that, my fans knew me as Gurmeet Choudhary! So television taught me everything about being in front of the camera.

TV is more competitive

TV has become more and more competitive as every channel is running eight shows and each show has newcomers. The competitive angle arises from the fact that after doing a show, one feels one should stand out and become popular.

His future films

Vishesh Films has signed me for a three-film deal but, inshallah, I would like to do more films with them as they gave me my first break and I will be always loyal to them. But I am also talking to another big production house, where the script-reading is underway. Very soon, I will make an official announcement.😃
