Are you the type that gives presents with special meanings?

When I buy gifts, I like to get something that is useful to the receipient. However, Dev's presents to Payal are an expression of his love, so they are bound to carry a special meaning.

Given that we are looking for symbolic meanings, I must confess - every time I see an handkerchief put over Dev's head, I wonder if Jug Head will make him cry a thousand times!!

(Although I have received handkerchiefs as gifts and have never been made to cry - so I must remind you we are talking of symbolism in the show)

This is what I remember the most of gifting a pen. A pen as a gift is a sign of academic achievement - and is an old (by old I mean a valued gift in the days when handwriting was valued over texting) favorite for gifting at graduation.

Here Dev views it as a special item that Payal uses daily. An item that would remind her of him every time that she picks it up. An item she will use to express her innermost thoughts and emotions. An item that Payal will hold in her hand and perhaps next to her face (even lips) as she ponders and pauses when writing. What other gift can boast such an intimacy?

His second gift - a wrist watch - will get her to think of him minute-to-minute or from time-to-time. Whenever she binds (fastens) the bracelet around her wrist - it will remind her of the special bond they share. Although what he said is true too - it does signify a major change in her life.
