Chapter 34

At work, she sat in front of his desk, constantly looking up at him and getting lost in him.

One time, Randhir caught her staring.

"Everything okay?" he asked her.

She nodded slowly, still enchanted, still not removing her gaze.

"How much work did you get done?" he asked her, raising his eyebrow.

She nodded again, unable to comprehend what he was saying... she was so enthralled right now.

"Sanyukta," Randhir said again. "What are you looking at?"

Then she snapped out of her reverie and smiled sheepishly at him.

"Sorry," she mumbled, and glanced back down.

Stealing a glance back up at him, she noticed him smirking.

"Sanyukta come here," he said to her.

"Me?" she gasped.

"Who else?" he asked, sounding confused.

She nodded and stood up, walking around the desk to him, her heart beating rapidly, her palms sweating.

"Y - yes?" she asked him breathlessly.

"Can you look at this for me?" he asked her, pointing towards his laptop.

She bent forward so that her eyes could align with the screen. Her face was directly next to his... the proximity was killing her.

"What do you want me to look at?" she asked him, trying to keep focused.

She could feel the heat radiate off him... or was it her own heat she felt?

He leaned forward a bit, his cheek brushing against hers softly. She knew he could feel the warmth of her cheeks, and his cool ones against hers gave her a moment's relief.

"Nevermind," he said simply. "You can go and sit down now Sanyukta."

"What?" she asked him, pouting, and standing up straight. "That was a waste of time!"

"Is that how you speak to your boss Sanyukta?" he asked, sounding shocked that someone would even speak to him in this manner.

She crossed her arms and glared at him, looking irritated.

"What are you trying to do?" she asked him.

He stood up and walked towards her, causing her to start moving back until she hit the wall. He placed his hands on either side of her, blocking her escape route and he brought his lips dangerously close to hers.

Focus Sanyukta... focus... you have to show him attitude. You're annoyed. Not in love. You can't be in love right now. Be in love later!

"Behave like an employee at work Sanyukta," he murmured, bringing his lips to her ear, his lips brushing over her earlobe. "I know you haven't been here much but learn."

She was surprised her body hadn't given up on her already. She was trembling.

"Th - then you behave like a boss," she whispered back to him.

Randhir let go of her, taking a step back.

"Hmm, alright then," he told her with a smirk. "I'll behave like a boss."

Shit. What had she done? What had HE done? She could have closed the distance between them, she could have gotten what she wanted... but she had pushed him away instead.

Stupid girl Sanyukta, she said to herself. Provoking Randhir never gets you anywhere.

He had been seducing her for no reason... and instead of giving in and getting what she wanted, she just told him to behave professionally. She was so stupid. Their relationship was beyond professionalism!

But she wasn't going to give up... now she was going to make him want her, and she would make him break all his barriers and come to her.

Chapter 35

They met Ishika for lunch at the staff room in the office. After ordering in food, they sat together.

"Sanyukta I haven't seen you for a long time... same with you Randhir, you haven't been coming to work much," Ishika told him, raising her eyebrow.

"I've been busy," Randhir responded. "And if I'm not in the office, then Sanyukta really has no reason to be here so I gave her time off."

Sanyukta smiled at Randhir, liking the way he was covering up the situation.

"Of course, our CEO is a busy man," Ishika said with a smile.

"Thanks for taking care of the office," Randhir told her gratefully. "I mean, without you I don't know what I would have done."

Sanyukta shot Randhir a glare. Was he trying to make her feel bad or something? That if it weren't for Ishika, his business would have gone down the drain?

"No problem Randhir. I've told you this before too... I'll do anything for you," she told him lightly.

"I'm so lucky to have you in my life," he told her appreciatively.

Sanyukta coughed and stood up, not interested in watching their public display of affection.

"What happened Sanyukta?" Ishika said, looking confused.

"I'm going to go," Sanyukta said dramatically, her gaze pointed towards Randhir.

"Why? At least eat first," Ishika told her, reaching out to stop Sanyukta, but Randhir grabbed Ishika's hand.

Her eyes widened when he did that. Fine, he could be as public with Ishika as he wanted... she wouldn't care!

"Let her go," he told Ishika.

She pursed her lips in annoyance. He wanted her to go? He didn't even care that she had just been sick and hadn't eaten anything? She folded her arms angrily and stormed out of the room, back into Randhir's cabin.

About half an hour later, Randhir appeared in the cabin with a bag. Locking the door behind him, he sat in his chair and opened the bag. Sanyukta's eyes widened when she saw that it was food.

Her heart melted - he was so sweet. He got her food... at least she was in his thoughts.

He started to place the food on a plate and caught her eye.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" he asked her, looking confused. "I'm still hungry so I packed food for myself."

She breathed sharply. She overestimated him.

"You're so horrible," she said to him with a frown.

"Do I need to remind you how to speak to your boss Sanyukta?" Randhir asked her.

"No," she mumbled and looked down.

Randhir smirked and pushed the plate towards her.

"Here, eat," he said to her.

"I don't need your favours," she snapped at him.

"I'm not giving you any favours. I don't want you missing anymore work because you're sick," he told her coolly. "Eat."

She took the plate from him and started to eat, glaring at him the whole time. He watched her with a smirk.

When she was done eating, she looked up at him.

"Who is Ishika to you?" she asked him.

He smirked again. If he didn't look so cute while smirking then she might have slapped him across the face right now.

"Someone very special," he responded.

"Special?" she asked him, her eyes wide.

"Yes," he told her coolly.

"Then who am I?" she asked him, irritated.

"My secretary," he replied. "That's all."

She didn't believe him at all... she knew he loved her a lot, but still, the way he said it hurt her.

"That's it?" she asked him softly. "Nothing more?"

"Yes," he said, and looked down, immersing himself in work again.

Why did it hurt? She was supposed to feel okay... she was supposed to be okay with the idea of being alone. Then why did she want Randhir's praises, why did she want his love?

She couldn't lie to herself anymore. She wanted Randhir... and she needed to have him.

Chapter 36

Randhir Singh Shekhawat had one goal, and that was to make Sanyukta okay to be alone... he didn't want her to be dependent on him. He wanted to make her a strong individual... and his behaviour towards her was for her own good.

He knew he was hurting her, but pain only made you stronger, and Randhir needed her to be stronger.

She was getting there, and he was so, so proud of her, but his expectations for her were much higher than where she was right now. Sanyukta was only beginning to realize her love and attraction for him.

He found it adorable when she blushed around him, when she got enamoured by him, when she tried to get closer to him. He found it all so cute. He enjoyed teasing her innocently, but when he was serious with her, it was to teach her, to help her grow.

They both did their work quietly for the rest of the day.

"Ready to go?" Randhir asked her after a few hours.

She shook her head.

"You go," she said.

"Why?" he asked her. "Finish the rest tomorrow."

She glanced up at him and glared.

"I want that house with my own driver as written in the contract," she demanded. "I want my own place. I don't want to live with you."

He couldn't help but smile at her stubborn nature.

"Ah, do you?" he asked her, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes!" she said.

"Hmm... alright," Randhir told her. "I'll give it to you."

"You will?" she asked, sounding shocked.

"Yes, it's written in the contract. Why wouldn't I?" he asked her.

"F - fine!" she stammered, trying to regain her composure. "Give it to me!"

"But that will have to wait. It doesn't happen that quickly... getting a house here isn't that simple," he explained to her.

"You're supposed to be a big man, CEO of India's top company and all... you can't even get a small house?" Sanyukta snapped.

He couldn't control his smile. Why was her anger adorable?

"I can't, now pack up. We're going home," he told her.

She stood up, annoyed, and grabbed her purse.

"Okay," she said, and didn't say a word to him after that.

He walked after her, smiling, and didn't speak to her either.

That evening at home, Sanyukta locked herself in her room, and Randhir couldn't help but shake his head with a smirk. She would come out on her own soon, and he knew that.

After coming out to get food and disappearing into her room again, she re-appeared.

It was eleven at night by the time she got to Randhir's door. She hesitated at his doorway.

"Yes Sanyukta?" he called, knowing she was there.

He was sitting up on his bed, against some pillows, a file from work in his hands, a bottle of ginger ale next to him on the bedside table.

She didn't say anything to him. Instead she just walked into the room, got into his bed, and lay on his chest, hugging him tightly.
