Her hands fisted his shirt and with her heart throbbing inside her chest, she brushed her lips across his soft ones gently, feeling an explosion go off inside her mind as all sense of rational thinking, of logic, all feelings of guilt and morality left her.

Chapter 29

Sanyukta's mind was blank. She had no thoughts. It was like she was in some blissful state with no worry for anyone or anything in the world. Her lips touched his softly and one of his hands was on her cheeks, the other one holding her waist. Her hands wrapped around him, sliding up to his neck, one burying itself inside his hair.

She was lost in the moment - it was like the first time they had ever kissed. It was like she had never kissed anyone before... the electricity that ran up her spine through this simple touch of the lips was astonishing. She pressed her lips even harder against his and he opened his mouth, allowing her to move her lips in sync with his. It was slow - she was savouring each movement, feeling the way his lips touched hers.

He pulled back and her eyes opened. She looked into his loving eyes and automatically felt tears fill them up - not tears of sadness or guilt, but tears of joy.

She hugged him tightly, hiding her face in his shirt.

"I don't want to leave you for even a moment," she told him honestly. "I can't live without you anymore Randhir."

He stroked her hair and smiled.

"I'm here Sanyukta, I won't go anywhere. You know you have to sort some things out first though... you have a job to do before you come to me for good," he said softly.

"Can't we forget all of that and just be together? You and I... together," Sanyukta murmured. "Just us. We don't need to sort anything out. I don't want to leave you."

He shook his head and kissed the top of her head.

"You can't run away from your problems and use love as an excuse," he responded. "You go through what you have to go through, like you have been going through until now... and it will bring you closer to me. I promise."

"I don't want to leave you though," she said, feeling her heart ache.

"I know," he murmured. "I know you love me Sanyukta. But you have to leave me for a short while... I promise you'll find yourself back here with me."

She pulled herself back and looked into his eyes with her own teary ones.

"I will miss you," she whispered.

He kissed the corner of her lip, causing her breath to catch in her throat.

"I will wait for you," he replied softly.

"I should go today right?" she asked him, looking upset.

"Whenever you want to go," Randhir told her. "You can go tomorrow if you like."

"I shouldn't waste anymore time," Sanyukta told him sadly. "I'll go today. After all, the sooner I finish it, the better."

Then she turned around and started to re-braid her hair.

"I'm proud of you," he said, and then kissed her on the cheek from behind her.
