The show had a better than decent start, some of the questions raised by the promos (for me) have been answered in this episode.. Now to the good and not-so-good of the episode..
The Good..
1) The casting.. It is almost a perfect casting, the family looks very realistic, the kids are adorable and can act too. Gurdeep is very convincing and Ram, do I need to say anything?
2) I had a question while watching the promo on why will any cancer patient decline the chance for treatment.. They answered the question by showing her as a cancer survivor who had already undergone chemo once, seen her family suffering financially and her hubby losing out on career growth. Makes sense on why she is reluctant on undergoing treatment again. Realistic that she is being cheerful for the kids.
3) The family bonding looks very natural. Everybody pulling each other's legs, kind of fun. And the house set is realistic for a middle class home with a bright & cheerful interior. The first scene where the whole family taking part in neighbourhood cricket match is a perfect start. Ram and Anu taunting each other and kids taking sides, cute, and Ram noticing Anu feeling sick is realistic again.
4) A pat on my back, I guessed Ram to be a musician and he is indeed one here. Very different from his usual tycoon roles. The T-Shirt he worn during the match was fitting him well and he looked well, hope he reducessome weight in the sorrow of losing wife ;)
5) The one intense hug, it was tugging the heart strings.. They got into the heart of the show's theme without dragging. And there is no OTT just to make audience cry.
6) Not too complex medical information, and no bloopers either.
7) A hubby - Wife who COMMUNICATES!!! A novelty indeed after seeing some of BT shows ;). If it was a BT show, the heroine would have called her rich father behind her hubby's back ;) unlike here where she expressed her desire to meet the father.
Not so Good..
1) As the episode was mingled with kids scenes, there wasn't much time for reflection, especially from Ram's perspective. He wasn't shown to be 'thinking' about wife's health complications. hope it gets addressed soon.
2) The episode was kind of predictable in its theme (not scenes, they were fresh). I almost envisioned the same for the first episode.
3) Though Ram is very good, and the family chemistry is perfect, I think Ram was better in season 1 of BALH. May be his best will come in the upcoming episodes.
4) Do we really need a rich negative father? Can't the show progress without negative characters?
5) I am not sure a cancer survivor's hair grows this long in 2 years after chemo. (she did mention she lost her hair as a result of chemo).
