TALKING POINT with Bobby Darling |
Who christened you Bobby Darling? Earlier I used to be known as Bobby jaan. But on the sets of Na Tum Jaano Na Hum, co-actors would say it sounded like Umrao Jaan. So they chose Bobby Darling instead. Didn't you enter the Guinness Book of Records recently? Yes, also Limca for playing the maximum number of gay roles in Hindi films and television. Now I want to break my own record. My life is an open book. I'm not embarrassed of my laser surgery or the hormone pills I'm taking. In fact, talking to me gives other homosexuals, the courage to come out of the closet. Tell us about your role in Le Jaayenge Le Jaayenge on Star Plus. I play Durga, the leading lady's best friend. She's a fashion designer who's very possessive about her pal (Chandan). There's a lot of humour involved and I get to wear sexy, jazzy kurtas. Are you happy with the kind of roles you're offered on TV? Television is close to my heart because my cameo in Kyunki... really got me noticed. Even rickshaw and cab drivers would walk up and tell me about it. After that I did bit roles in other shows like Kareena Kareena and finally I have a big role in Le Jaayenge.... Has anyone on TV given you a really hard time? Only once, when I was a guest on Smriti Z Iraani's show Kuch Dil Se. They treated me really badly by asking inappropriate questions. Have attitudes towards homosexuals changed? Yes. I remember an interview of Rekha's where she said that if you're famous, people will love you no matter what you are. Have you ever had to face the casting couch? It happened once with a famous director. Subsequently, I didn't even get the role. Are you seeing anyone? All the guys I date end up using me as a stepping stone to get noticed. I haven't been in a serious relationship yet. What are the other offers coming your way? I've been approached by a big music label for a remix album titled, Hot Bobby Darling. I'm not singing the songs, but the video will be centered around me. Who are the hottest man and woman on TV? |
