Dhanush Moves To Mumbai
South and Bollywood have always had a special connection and many a South star has made it big in the Hindi film industry. The latest South star to make his debut to Bollywood is actor Dhanush, who recently bought a flat in Andheri, in the Lokhandwala area. Even though his last Hindi film Shamitabh did not work at the box office, the actor has decided to move to Mumbai and make it big in Hindi films. The actor, who is being bombarded with scripts, will be finalising his next Hindi film soon. Since he's moved to Mumbai, it will be easier for him to meet directors and writers.
rishyam On July 31
The shooting of Ajay Devgn's next Viacom 18 and Panorama Films' Drishyam, being directed by Nishikant Kamat, got underway in Goa recently. Apart from Devgn, the film also features Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor and Tabu. It will be shot in one schedule, in Goa and Hyderabad.
The makers are sure wasting no time - shooting and post-production will wrap in four months flat, and the film will release on July 31. It seems they have accounted for every last detail so that they don't miss the release date. The film is being produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Ajit Andhare and Abhishek Pathak.
Karan Deol To Be Launched
There's been speculation in the film trade about who would launch Sunny Deol's son Karan. There were many names bandied about but no confirmation. Now we hear that just like Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, Karan Deol too will be launched by their home production Vijeta Films. In all probability, the film is expected to go on the floors in the second half of next year. We're also told that the director has been locked but the production house is tight-lipped about it and will soon announce the name. Currently, Karan Deol is training for his debut film.
Agra Ka Daabra To Start
We all are aware that Ayushmann Khurrana's career was not going great guns because after his debut film Vicky Donor, none of his films worked at the box office. Making things worse was the buzz in the industry that the actor was choosy. Things were so bad for the actor that many filmmakers who had signed him put these projects on the back burner, one of them being a film by his Vicky Donor team, titled Agra Ka Daabra, which was to be directed by Amit Roy.
Thankfully, Khuranna's latest release Dum Laga Ke Haisha has put a full stop to the speculation and things will soon start rolling for Khuranna along with Agra Ka Daabra. A source close to the film reveals, "Ayushmann was signed by JA Entertainment and Rising Sun Films for Agra Ka Daabra but for a long time the film was on hold due to the business of his other films at the box office. Now that Dum Laga Ke Haisha has done well and the makers know their film's content is very strong, they have decided to start rolling but only next year."
B Heads To Kashmir
Kabir Khan's directorial venture Bajrangi Bhaijaan is gearing up for its next schedule to be held in Kashmir. A source close to the film reveals, "By the end of this month, Salman (Khan) will finish Prem Ratan Dhan Payo's schedule as he will have to shoot for 40 days, for Bajrangi Bhaijaan in Kashmir, from April to mid-May. The schedule will require Salman, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and will be the most intense schedule."
Another New Director For Nawaz
Ribhu Dasgupta, who had assisted Anurag Kashyap and then directed the Yudh TV series, is all set to make his debut as a feature film director. The director has narrated his script to Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who has given it a nod. The actor has asked Dasgupta to finish the screenplay by this year-end because that's when he has dates to allot.
We also hear that the makers are trying to sign Shraddha Kapoor opposite Siddiqui - it's a new-age, never-heard-before kind of love story.
Kangana To Play Sarabjit's Sister?
Two years ago, Subhash Ghai had announced a film to be made on Sarabjit Singh to be directed by debutant Ishwar Singh. But after the failure of his last film Kaanchi at the ticket counter, Ghai decided to can all production plans. Now we hear that the rights to Sarabjit have been sold to a new production house.
This new producer has approached Kangana Ranaut to play the lead in it. Well, the film actually revolves around Sarabjit's sister's struggle to get him back from Pakistan. Watch this space for more!
Sujoy Ghosh's Next Postponed
A lot has been said and written about Sujoy Ghosh's next. Soon after Kahaani, there was talk about a sequel to the film, then came the news about Durga Rani Singh. But none of these projects have started rolling. Now the director has teamed up with Balaji Motion Pictures to direct the adaptation of the Japanese novel The Devotion Of Suspect X featuring Saif Ali Khan and Kangana Ranaut in the lead. Once again, the film will be set in Kolkata. However, shooting, which was to start in April, has been postponed to mid-May as there's a lot of prep left. Moreover, shooting in West Bengal is not easy. Apparently, the director and his team are making the rounds of the city to finalise locations. The May schedule will be shot in Kalimpong, a hill station in West Bengal, as the heat in May is unbearable.
Anand L Rai To Launch
We all are aware that Anand L Rai has decided to turn producer. He is meeting many newcomers as well as listening to many scripts to produce as many films as he can. Last month, he had signed Mudassar Aziz to direct a film called Happy Bhaag Jayegi, and now the buzz is that he has also signed art director Wasiq Khan, the man behind the sets of films like Raanjhanaa, Tanu Weds Manu, Ram Leela, Dabangg, Gangs Of Wasseypur and many more.
A source close to the director reveals, "Wasiq is very close to Anand and when he shared his idea of turning director, Anand decided to back him. The makers are currently developing a script together and when Wasiq is free from all his commitments by the end of next year, he will start working on his directorial debut."
Guess Who?
There's buzz in the trade that the marketing head of a big corporate house has been telling people that if one of their last films didn't work at the ticket counter, this executive would have lost the job. Okay, fair enough.
The same executive is now telling people that the idea they came up with helped the film to do the business it did. That's odd because the whole industry knows that the film did well at the ticket counter only because of the popularity of the leading man and the way he went all out to promote the film.
Well, dear executive, not fair. It's Unfair!!!
