Its clearly evident that Madhu loves R. But something holding her back. Does she have an ugly scar on her face??? Is she handicapped or something? ? Or is it just that she have a troubled nasty past?? Waiting for the next updates for the answer. .

Nothing physically wrong with her. That would be such a terrible though. I wonder why you'd think it's plausible, esp since they've been married so long now

Part 2

Madhu

"Madhu, do you love me?" He suddenly asks. We are on our way back from our anniversary dinner. He surprised me with a beautiful candle-light dinner a few hours ago. He had ordered a heart shaped cake that had both our pictures printed on it, along with the words "I love you". I was so touched I couldn't stop crying, and he immediately panicked and stood up from his chair and knelt next to me. It took me full five minutes to convince him that they were tears of joy and that I was happy beyond words. He just cannot see my tears, my Rishabh. I don't want him to see them either. He only deserves happiness.

"What kind of a question is that?" I ask as I turn my head to him. His eyes are on the road ahead as he's driving, but I can sense he is waiting for an answer. I don't know how to answer a question like that. Doesn't he know?

"It's a simple question Madhu" he says when I don't say anything else for a couple of minutes. "I want to know if you love me, if you're happy with me in this marriage?"

"Well, what do you think hubby?" I answer with the best mix of a pout and a grin I can manage, then something catches my eye.

"Icecream! RK, stop stop stop. I want icecream. Pleaaassseee."

RK

She jumps out of the car as soon as I stop. I watch as she gleefully runs to the icecream vendor as if she was three years old.

Her eyes are still inside the freezer as the vendor fishes out her demand, but she extends her palm in my direction as I approach her.

"What?" I ask.

"Thirty bucks of my husband's hard-earned money please." She chuckles.

"For free?" I tease back and she turns to me and gives me a big kiss on the cheek. I see the vendor blush as he finally fishes out whatever Madhu had instructed him to find.

"No, not for free." she says and turns back to the vendor. "Oh great, you got it. Take money from him" She says and grabs the icecream before running towards the car.

"Just one?" I ask as I catch up to her. She's leaning along the car and the icecream cone is out of the wrapper, though she hasn't begun eating. Her sultry smile is killing me.

"We're sharing" she says and pushes the cone in front of my lips. I notice it is my favorite flavor, not hers. I smile as I take a bite. "I wasn't talking about the icecream."

She takes a bite herself, then looks at me, catching the import of my statement with a slight blush on her cheeks. Then, to my surprise, she bends forward and licks some lingering icecream residue on my lips.

"Don't waste icecream. Icecream makes me happy. Very very happy." she whispers as she pulls apart. My blood is boiling and I want to ravish her, but then I realize we are in public. I just hold her hand and drag her in the car. We need to get home as soon as possible.

Madhu

"I told you I don't want to go." I repeat for the the fifth time, but he doesn't want to listen to me. He has been so irritable these days and I know it is because of all this extra work pressure he has on an upcoming JV negotiation. Which is even more reason why I don't want to go and leave him here alone for a week! But his stubbornness isn't helping me right now.

"Oh come on Madhu. They are your parents. Don't you want to meet them?"

"I met them last month at Diwali!"

"Yeah, for two hours. And that was also them coming here. You haven't been back to your home even once after our marriage, and they think I'm the one stopping you."

"First of all, I have been home a couple of times after marriage. I haven't stayed over because I don't feel like and if my mother doesn't like it she should call me and not you. And second, why aren't you stopping me?"

"What?"

"Why don't you want me to stay with you? Why are you making me leave? You don't like living with me anymore!" I yell and leave the room. Some times he infuriates me so much.

"Oh God, Madhu! You know that's not true!" he walks behind me.

"It is!"

"Of course not Madhu." he gently turns and tries to cajole me in his arms, but I don't want to give in. "Oh God, why are you crying? Someone would think I am sending you to prison, not to your own parents' home."

"Why do you want to send me away from you?" I sob as he finally envelops me in his arms.

"Nobody is sending anyone away. I just thought you should spend some time with them. Anyway I am so busy these days. I am late every day, and I have to go out of town for three days. So I thought...ok baba, don't go if you don't want to."

"I will go for one day, when you're in Mumbai. But I am not going for a week. Ok?"

"Ok. Whatever you want."

"Rishu..."

"Hmm"

"I cannot live without you. Don't ever leave me." I say, my words quivering. It is hard for me to put words on my feelings but for once the truth spills out. I am so afraid of him walking away and walking out of my life.

I tilt my head to look at his face and find him staring at me. The silence scares me even though it shouldn't as I can feel his embrace tightening. He kisses my forehead.

"Never, honey." he says and I breathe. "I love you Madhu." and I just hide my face in his chest

Later, when we are lying in bed, I try to tell him how I have never been very close to my parents. It's not easy for me to tell him all this, but he deserves to know. No, my mom and dad are perfectly good people and amazing parents. They provided for me, they raised me well and I love them like every child loves their parents. But I don't feel close to them. I have never shared any of my secrets with them. Not with Payal, either. She is elder and she is always been closer to them. Not a lot - they're not the kind of people who treat their children as friends. And that suits me just fine. I was always happy within myself when I lived with them. Now, I don't feel like I belong in that home any more. Everything feels alien to me. I talk to my parents on phone once a week to assure myself they're fine. They are both healthy and doing well. That's all that matters to me. But I don't want to live with them. I want to live here, in my home. Even if RK's traveling for work. His home is my home.

I try to explain all this in as well as I can, but I am not sure how well I articulate it with my words. He looks at me strangely and I know it's not easy for him to relate to what I am saying. There was a time I didn't have so much trouble with words, but that was before I realized their power. And their pain.

RK

"Why don't you ever understand, dammit?" I yell in anger, but regret it the next instant as I see the look on her face. Why am I taking my stress out on her?

"Madhu..."I call out as I see her pursing her lips, controlling her tears before walking out of the room. I sit back on the sofa and hold my head in my hands.

This is the the third time in the last four days when I have screamed at Madhu for no fault of hers. She doesn't say anything, but each time, I can see her getting petrified with my anger. I know she is getting hurt, but what do I do, I am no super man. Things are so messed up at work these days. If this deal doesn't close by the end of next week, we would be in so much trouble, but new issues keep coming up and I have been spending all my time this week firefighting.

But Madhu knows how important all this is, why I have been out of home so much and why I need to be working even when I am home. It's just a few more days, why doesn't she give me some space?

Ah! Dammit! I clench my fists as I walk out of the room after 20 minutes and see Madhu sobbing to herself in the balcony. You're such an idiot, RK.

All she was asking was to have dinner with her for ten minutes before resuming my work.

10 minutes of peaceful time with your wife, is that too much to ask? It's 1030 pm and she hasn't eaten because you haven't eaten, idiot.

"Madhu. I am sorry. Come let's eat." I call her. She doesn't answer but comes back in the room after a couple of minutes. 5 minutes later, she emerges from the kitchen with only one plate of food and hands it to me.

"Where's yours?" I ask.

"I already ate." she says without looking at me and goes to the bedroom. I want to stop her but I am too tired to meet her emotional needs right now. Besides, I apologized the last two times this happened and promised I won't take out my anger on her. Then I went ahead and did the same thing again. She's not going to believe me now. Maybe she won't even forgive me this time. But most importantly, I really can't see her tears right now knowing that I am the cause.

I watch from the hall as the bedroom light is turned off.

Madhu

He comes to bed hours later and I hear him sigh in fatigue. I know he is tired and stressed. I know he needs me to support him right now, not increase pressure on him. But his words hurt. His anger burns. It's been several weeks now since we spent any quality time together. This constant waiting for him, this constant feeling of being ignored - it's getting harder and harder to live with. I know it's not his fault. It's a phase, and we'd get through it. But what do I do if I am not as strong as he needs me to be?

It seems that even after all these years, I haven't learnt my lessons. I am still as needy, as weak, as clingy and as unlovable as I was six years ago. But it's not RK's fault. I need RK - I wish I didn't need him so much, but I do - but I do not need his apology and I certainly don't want to make him feel any worse.

I roll over to his side and stroke his arm with my hand. "Madhu..." he starts to speak.

"It's okay." is all I say as I hold him and feel him drift into sleep.
