I just saw the trailer of the film and I'm certain this venture will prove to be one of the best ones this year
Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet has been the talk of the town ever since its inception. Be it the kickass star cast- Anushka Sharma, Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar or the era it is set in, I am certain that the venture will be one of its kind. After having watched the trailer, I couldn't be more sure! Here are 5 reasons why I think Bombay Velvet will be THE film of 2015
It is an Anurag Kashyap film
Allow me to come straight to the point. Anurag's ventures might not meet the requirements of a typical commercial film but there's no denying that this director creates an impact each time with his projects and is one of the finest visionaries we have in the industry today. Take Ugly for example. The film might not have made it to the 100 crore club like many others but Mr Kashyap hardly cares a damn about the same. His motive is to make good cinema and that is exactly what he did with Ugly. The venture was being pitted against Kangana Ranaut's Queen and gained momentum by word of mouth. It made it to the best film category for Filmfare Awards too. Anurag has roped in Anushka and RK for BV. The director must have used their potential to the fullest and I'm sure of that. This is Anurag's film. It might be unconventional like all his other ventures, but it will be worth a watch!
The Boxer, Jazz Singer and the Villain
The star cast of the film caught my immediate attention upon its announcement. Not only was I looking forward to Anushka and RK's pairing, but the fact that Karan Johar had been roped in to play a villain in the film took me aback and pleasantly surprised me. The star studded value which the cast has will only add to the magnanimity of the venture, in my opinion. When there's RK- Anushka in lead roles, one can expect memorable performances. As for Kjo, I'm waiting to be bowled over by his villainous act!
The era
Bombay Velvet is based in the 1960s. The venture has a vintage feel to it owing to its time period and I'm sure same will make it stand out amongst the rest this year. Anurag's films have always had a certain quality to them which appeal to a section of the masses if not each and everyone. I'm sure the filmmaker will do a splendid job in presenting the era of the 60s in a grand and magnanimous manner.
Johnny and Rosie
This is the first time Anushka and Ranbir have been paired together. A fresh pairing is always looked forward to, be it in any film. This one however is special not only in terms of the characters the actors are playing but the crackling chemistry they share, as seen from the posters and the trailer. The two have time and again proven their capabilities through stellar performances and when put together in a Kashyap film, I can only expect sheer brilliance.
Tale in the twists
Anurag's films often have an intriguing plot. He leads the viewers to believe in a certain story but one is shocked when it is revealed that the tale has been a completely different one all along. The trailer of the film gave me a hint of the level of intensity which can be expected from it. Not only will BV be dark and dramatic, but will also have a definite plotline which will keep all hooked throughout. Don't believe me? Take Ugly, Shaitaan, Dev D and Gangs of Wasseypur for example.
