Chapter 24

Randhir held her tightly and smiled into her hair. He wanted to hear her say those three words, he really did... but not like this.

Breaking the embrace, he cupped her cheeks and kissed her forehead.

"I know you do," he told her softly, "But you don't."

"What?" she asked, her smile dropping into a frown.

"You don't know that you love me Sanyukta... you're just getting emotional in the moment, you said it in the heat of the moment. Maybe an hour later, you'll question yourself and wonder if you really meant what you said," he told her softly.

"Randhir why can't you just accept that I love you?" Sanyukta asked impatiently.

She got up from the bed angrily and glared at him, her hands on her hips.

"I do accept it," Randhir said, standing up. "Trust me, I do."

He paused for a moment, seeming to think about something before smiling at her.

"I'm sorry," he apologized, placing his hand on her shoulder. "I love you too."

She smiled and hugged him again as he kissed the top of her head. He couldn't get enough of that.

Sanyukta broke the hug and looked up at Randhir who cupped her face, leaning towards her, his lips almost touching hers. His hands fell to her waist and her hands were on his shirt.

She closed her eyes, her heart beating wildly... not only because he was so close, but because she was scared.

"R - Randhir, no," she breathed out, pushing him back slightly.

He smiled and kissed her forehead instead, stroking her cheek softly.

"What happened?" he asked.

"I don't know if it's right," she responded to him.

"I thought you loved me?" Randhir asked, raising his eyebrows.

"I do... but that doesn't mean this is right?" she asked him, sounding confused herself.

"Do you think love cares about right or wrong?" Randhir asked her patiently, holding her cheeks lovingly. "A true realization of love would be if you are able to break social constricts, if you are able to see beyond what is right and wrong, and act just on love... not on what your mind thinks."

She looked up at him with tears in her eyes.

"I'm such a failure," she whispered.

"You're not a failure," Randhir responded. "Don't let your mind bully you... and don't rush into things."

She wiped her eyes and walked out of the room, feeling like she really was a failure, and she had just disappointed Randhir.

Randhir watched her go. He loved Sanyukta so much that he was ready to push her away for her own benefit... and for her benefit, he didn't run after her. She needed to sort things out in her own mind, battle her own thoughts, and love herself before she could tell him that she truly loved him and mean it.

"Don't worry Sanyukta," he said to himself with a smile. "I'm not here to take care of you physically, I'm here to take care of your soul. I'm here to heal you so that you come back so strong that nobody will be able to break you again... not even yourself."
