Chapter 21

She breathed faster, his nose touching hers ever so lightly, causing her eyes to close.

"How much more?" he murmured, his lips so close to hers that she could feel her lips tingle from the proximity.

Her hands slid over the top of his arms to his shoulders, her heart surely beating faster than a thousand miles per second.

She was about to close the gap between their lips but he had reached up and pressed his lips on her forehead instead, causing her to feel a warm sensation inside. Kissing it softly, he cupped her cheek comfortingly and brought his lips down to her cheek, kissing her there too.

Sanyukta's eyes were closed, her breathing completely out of rhythm.

Then he gently let his lips brush over her earlobe as he muttered into her ear, "Maybe some other time."

Her stomach did flip flops. Damn. Why was he having this effect on her after all these years? It was even more intense than when she last remembered it. Her memories of those feelings had faded with her new life.

He pulled her close again into her embrace and she relaxed her head on his shoulder, feeling very safe in his arms.

He lace his fingers through hers and she murmured, a bit guiltily, "Randhir is this right?"

"What?" he asked her, sounding clueless, "Have we done anything wrong?"

"No," she responded. "But we almost kissed."

"Did we kiss?" he asked her softly.

"No," she responded.

"Then why worry?" he replied. "And even if we did, why would you feel guilty?"

"I'm married," she told him, her eyes closing, feeling like she got punched in the stomach when she said that. "I would be being unfaithful."

"If you're married why were you ready to kiss me?" Randhir asked her, his tone still soft, still genuine.

"I don't know," Sanyukta responded, her eyes getting wet.

She wanted to say it was because she loved him, but she wasn't sure whether she knew the meaning of love anymore.

He let go of her hand and caressed her cheek softly, her head still on his shoulder.

"It's because you feel strongly for me," Randhir answered. "Feelings you yourself can't describe... and that's okay. You can't force yourself to stop that."

She smiled when he said that... just hearing him voice out her feelings for her made her feel good. He did make her feel complete in every sense - he could put to words what she didn't even know about herself!

"It doesn't make it wrong Sanyukta," Randhir murmured. "What would be wrong would be you lying to yourself. If you do something with me out of pure love, there would be nothing to regret, nothing to feel ashamed of... but don't lie to yourself that you did it for other reasons."

She pulled her body away from his and looked up at him.

"How do I know when I'm being truthful and when I'm lying to myself though?" she asked him.

"You will know when you're being truthful," he responded with a small smile, stroking her cheek. "There will be no doubt in your mind."

Sanyukta hesitated for a moment before she asked her next question.

"Why didn't you kiss me Randhir?" she asked softly.

Randhir was silent for a moment before he answered her.

He brought both of his hands up to cup her face before he answered lovingly, "Sanyukta, when all of your doubts are cleared and you stop lying to yourself, come to me. Then I won't hesitate to be free with you. First, I want you to be okay."

Randhir leaned towards her and kissed her forehead once more as she tried to understand the meaning of what he said... but she just didn't get it. It was like the term "being okay" just didn't make sense to her anymore. She couldn't remember when she had last "been okay".

Sanyukta just nodded and leaned into his embrace again, confused about her feelings, her hopes and her life. What she was most confused about though was her own identity.

This was amazingly written! I am loving the way you are going with Sandhir's emotions...

The intensity of Randhir's love , care ,concern and understanding made me realize why Sanyukta decided to break up and to hide her pain from him. He could absolutely see through what she was trying to do, acting okay !

I have silly doubt though , why didn't Randhir notice vermilion or mangalsutra when he met her in his office? Or have I missed something...

Eagerly waiting for the next part...Update soonish...
