Technically Kick, Dhoom 3 and HNY should have all been flops. The stories were terrible.
Seems like fans of a superstar will watch their movies even if they are terrible.
Rather a small budget film with good stories become hits.

As much as I love these small and subtle films, I love watching the huge masala flicks once in a while...but then again they have to be really entertaining...not like HNY.

I hope it does bring change.
Word of mouth can be extremely powerful. Pitch Perfect was a modest budget film with minimal promotions. Its theatrical run was less than average. the movie was built and hyped through word of mouth. It rapidly became a cult classic with people viewing it multiple times. Now Pitch Perfect 2 is a highly hyped summer release. There have been several promos. Heck even the Packers are part of the film.

^ think Hollywood is too different to be able to compare tbh.

In these regards especially, it's too advanced. Hollywood makes movies with a massive variety of topics, and a grand bit of them get good coverage and notice.
In Bollywood, if a movie is of a slightly different topic or nature, or if it casts people not often seen on screen, it might as well consider shutting shop rather than pushing for more promotions, because that would just most likely increase sunk costs. Examples of diff movies that actually do very well are fairly far and few, hence very iconic (Do Dooni Chaar, Vicky Donor to an extent, Fimistaan, etc.)

I think the lack of content in the big movies is what's driving the success of these smaller films. There's only so many lack of proper storylines, poor acting, and item numbers before people go "meh"

budget is not the issue, content is! they need to improve content in the big budget, that's all.

Small budget movies have limitations to show big stories...we need both small and big budget...i cannot watch dum laga kai haisha and badlapur type whole my life

I feel she will end up just like them because Suhana really lacks the looks, glamour and talent! I mean she’s just NOT cut out for the glamour...
