Sanyukta Mittal... It's good that he knows now abt her... Sanyukta why is she even tolerating all the craps from that Sameer n his family... She is strong enough just needed a little push... Her family has always been a big disappointment... Waiting to see Randhir's reaction when he find abt Sanyukta's cond... Update soon Saffi...

Chapter Ten

Sanyukta started to shiver, and Randhir whose focus had been on her, noticed this right away. Without saying a word to her, he silently pushed his chair back and walked to the thermostat to adjust the heat. He increased the heat by a few points and sat back down.

Soon it was lunchbreak and Sanyukta had looked up from her work. Randhir who was just observing her and what she needed, closed his laptop and stood up.

"Let's go get lunch," Randhir told her coolly.

"Lunch?" she asked him, her eyes wide with shock.

"You're asking like I'm asking you out on a date," he retorted. "It's just lunch. Come on, I'll introduce you to the rest of the office."

She nodded and stood up, picking up her purse. He held the door open for her. She walked through the door, and he locked it behind her.

"Come," he said and took her to the elevators.

She awkwardly stood beside him in the elevator, and he didn't say a word to her. Soon they were on the Human Resources floor, and Randhir had taken her to Ishika's office.

"This is Ishika, the head of the Human Resources department," Randhir told her. "Ishika, this is Sanyukta, my secretary."

"Come, sit down," Ishika told the two of them and they both sat beside each other in front of Ishika's desk, their shoulders softly touching.

Sanyukta felt her heart rate increase at the close proximity and she awkwardly pushed her chair a bit further away from Randhir's.

Randhir seemed to pay no heed though.

"Hi Sanyukta," Ishika said with a smile. "Welcome to the company."

Randhir stood up and dialed a number on his cellphone to order lunch.

"Hi," Sanyukta told Ishika with a smile. "Thank you."

"You must have a really good CV to be able to win Randhir's heart," Ishika told her with a wink.

"Huh?" Sanyukta asked, sounding completely lost, "What do you mean?"

"I mean we've been telling this man for years to hire a secretary but he hasn't... it was only when he met you that he changed his mind," Ishika told her happily.

Sanyukta glanced up at Randhir and smiled softly in admiration. He lied to her that he had a secretary who coincidentally was going on maternity leave, so she wouldn't feel bad that he was opening a whole new position just for her? Did he still care about her that much? Sanyukta was touched... she was deeply touched.

Randhir came back and sat down with the two of them.

Soon they had lunch and Randhir announced that he had a meeting in his office.

"Sanyukta, you can work here with Ishika," he told her. "I'll send the peon down with your folder and notes. I'll see you later."

"Bye," Sanyukta told him with a friendly smile.

Then he left. The rest of the day passed and Sanyukta hadn't seen him.

"Where's Ran - Randhir sir," Sanyukta said to Ishika at the end of the day as she was picking up her bag to leave.

"He's very busy, we hardly ever get to see him," Ishika told Sanyukta with a sigh. "Don't worry, you'll be seeing him the most out of all of us, you're his secretary after all. You just go home and rest now."

Sanyukta smiled appreciatively at her new friend.

"Thanks Ishika. See you later," she said with a smile, and left the office, having had a good first day at work.

She didn't know at this point that while the day at work was really good - home was going to be brutal.

There was a huge turn of events that was going to take place that night... she was walking home to a situation that would change her life forever.

Chapter Eleven

Sanyukta entered her home quietly but casually, trying not to attract attention to herself.

She managed to get past the front entrance and was on her way up the stairs when her mother-in-law grabbed her arm from behind. Pressing her lips together to refrain from saying anything she would regret, she turned around.

"Hi mom," she said pleasantly.

"Why are you always at your home these days?" she asked her suspiciously. "Don't you have work to do? Responsibilities for this family?"

Sanyukta nodded.

"Sorry mom, I know I have been going a lot, but I've been feeling really low these days," she explained.

Her mother-in-law continued to look at her suspiciously.

"Why?" she asked her.

"You know how Sameer's been treating me," Sanyukta told her mother-in-law, wondering if she would get any sympathy from her.

"You deserve it," she retorted. "Always out of the house, doing things without asking. I see your respect for him dropped too."

Sanyukta pressed her lips together angrily, before taking a deep breath and forcing a smile.

"Obviously mom, it won't be so high anymore when he treats me like I'm worthless," she said calmly. "He beats me, you know that don't you?"

"Not a word against my son," her mother-in-law said angrily. "Go to your room... he's waiting for you."

"Waiting for me?" she asked her, suddenly fearfully.

Why would Sameer be waiting for her?

"Yes, he needs to have a word with you," her mother-in-law said. "Go to your room now. He has been waiting for you all afternoon."

"If he really needed to talk to me that badly, he could have told me at night instead of wandering off to casinos and gambling all the money away," she told her mother-in-law bitterly.

"It's his money, he can do whatever he wants with it," Sameer's mother said condescendingly. "You're the wife, you're expected to conform. Not him. Go."

Then her mother-in-law turned around and walked down the stairs, leaving Sanyukta to fearfully make her way to her room. If Sameer had been waiting to talk to her, surely this couldn't be good.

She paused outside her room and protectively rested her hands over her belly.

"Don't worry baby," she said softly. "Nothing will happen. Be strong."

Then she opened the door and entered the lion's cage.
