I am not defending him .. but I think this is something that he or no one else would have imagined. Raman gave her a paper. She agrees to the terms gets back with two copies, and the one she gives to the lawyer is assumed to be a photo copy. The lawyer goes throw the clause and approves, Raman signs it. In such cases the lawyers guidance and approval is taken, and when they're giving a nod the client does not find reason to go over the papers again. Which is what Raman did.
