The God track, in my opinion should have been presented in a different fashion. Akbar was a very spiritual person from the beginning and the desire to delve in the mystical side grew with age. The evidence is his visits to a large number of holy men during this period, and the lage scale building of Temples and Mosques during that time.

The "God situation" came to a head when the Ulemas sentenced a Pandit to death for blasphemy, and Akbar could do nothing to stop it because the Ulema was the acknowledged representative of God on earth. It was then that Akbar decided to topple the power of the clergy and initiated a number of political moves. The coinage and the infallibility decree were part of that strategy.

However, nowhere did Akbar claim that he was God but he did claim that he was god's representative on earth. And that was necessary if he had to have the final say on religious matters. This is how it is presented in Abul Fazl's writings. The behavior of Akbar prior to and after this event matches this viewpoint.

He never challenged God, he challenged the right of any sole religion or clergy to decide the true path to God.

Unfortunately in our serial it was depicted as if Akbar went on war with God, even the promos depicted it and that is pathetic. Viewers are by and large fairly intelligent, they cannot assimilate this yo-yo behavior of Akbar regarding religion. They know by personal experience that you don't just lose faith in God every now and then, spiritual beliefs are part of our personality and they are usually fixed unless a major life changing event happens, but even then there is no pendulum like change in viewpoints.

Is it any wonder that viewers could not connect to this track?

Viewers will come back slowly thru word of mouth. Recovery of TRPs will be slow - like u said, fixing things takes time. :)

I actually liked Akbar being shown to question God. I didn't like the goody-goody avatar of Jalal earlier so much. This Akbar is shown to question like a normal human being why he is being made to suffer in spite of having been so devout all his life.

I think this questioning is essential for the growth of any human being instead of blind faith. A faith that is tested and has proved itself is inevitably stronger. And Akbar was known to question religions and how to attain God etc. So I am really glad Ekta chose this track as the comeback track for JA.

Radhika, well said, this ques, is essential, for the growth of any human being,, recalling, When Buddha, feeled enlightment, His words was, Today i feeling All world inner is God,

Then his disciples, asked, itmeans, before Enlightment, All world inner is not God. Buddha ans was (Tabb bhee thaa, but i not know )Now my experience my journey is witness, God is everywhere.

His disciples says, we trust you so we should also accept this thought, Buddha ans was, which day Your experience or your journey say, or you feel God is everywhere, or everyone inner, that day you can say. but Now you can say, our Guru says, God is everywhere.

so here Jalal is also learning or feeling from his thoughts. Difference between, His & God,

or After experencied, he will more Mature +close to God or Own conscious.or as a human

more Growth will sure happen Jalal personality. sometimes conflicts comes in life,But conflicts, which gives us, thats very essential.Heart or mind, faces a lot, But Lotus making is not a easy job. means Life is a big Challenge.

Btw Akbar is only questioning God; he is not hating Him. He is disillusioned but not become a disbeliever yet. Like I said yesterday, Jodha knows his heart is in the right place and he will return to the straight path some day. Today, already Akbar had a divine experience with the boy angel in that water scene. As he proceeds further on this journey among his people, he will have more such experiences that will force him to reassess his thinking and get close to God again.

Akbar's heart lives in his masses. He can never be lost as long as he is with them and among them.

This is a long track that will run in the background while other sub-plots run in the foreground. It was interesting that Ruq told Jodha in Wednesday's episode that if Jodha left the palace, then Jalal would follow her. And look, that's what happened in Thursday's episode - Jalal followed Jodha as a commoner. :))

To conclude, I would say - since the focus has returned to JA, the show will slowly regain its position among old viewers. Esp if focus on Ruq and Salim-Anar is reduced. :)
