For example individuals cry when some task assigned fails or they feel helpless at some point in a task.

Remember Kambli bursted in tears when he saw India loosing in calcutta. Two ways to look at : 1. Signs of a week person, never assign challenging tasks. 2. Was so involved and this expression shows how much ownership/belonging he had and couldn't take India Loosing. This was just an example. Other things to think about what kind on character portrayal would President Bush do, if he cries in public for a bad decision he made? All for crying but basically I mean here

Debate - Display of personal emotions in public while performing a professional job is a positive or a negative trait? Again I mean emotions not just crying.

Other questions:

1. If someone from your team cries on failures, would you ever assign the same individual with similar tasks?

Can't answer this honestly yet because I haven't been in a situation like it. Personally, crying at work for whatever reason is a big no no for me, so I guess when the said moment arrives - my answer would probably be no.

2. Will you personally express emotional in professional environment?

Normally - No, but I have been guilty of expressing anger once 😳 - stormed out of a meeting! Usually my preferred mode is equanimity. If I do get angry, I pefer to stay silent.

3. Sorry this is only for folks who saw Movie Miracle – In movie "Miracle" those of whom seen it, at the end when Coaches team wins, he is straight faced in public even though it was his biggest achievement, was expression less, in between he sneak out in a quiet place and jumps / celebrates his triumph. Any reason why??

Apologize if this or similar topic has been discussed, feel free to close it mods. Happy Weekend folks!!

@ Gauri - ye telepathy ko scam ke liye use karein? 😆

The reason why I said it is different in sports

There was a baseball game, I think a couple years ago, A player hit a homerun off a pitcher, and then stood at the plate for a couple of seconds admiring what a great shot he hit, the next guy who came up to the hit, had a 90 mph fastball coming at his head

As it is, being a woman, on e has to work extra hard to prove one's mettle. The pressure to excel and perform better than the next guy is always there. On top of that there is this mindset that women do not take their career seriously. that they are working just to pass time or earn pocket money!!!

On top of that, being emotionally weak is such a stereotype attached to women that it is now virtually impossible to get rid of it. I don't want to be seen as the week one. Additionally, I feel that the people working for you may not rely on you completely or trust you completely if they see you breaking down when going gets tough. I give my best under pressure or when pushed too far or cornered. I don't even cry in front of my family members. That's thaeway I am....I think😊

Said it - all about attitude, so if one surges towards facing the challenge, towards completion of task, with uncontrollable tears in eyes that's okay then?

yes, as long as they don't want to be taken off that engagement and finish what was assigned to them on time and according to instructions, I'll give them another chance. we all deal with stress different. Just because I keep my emotions in check when with others, this does not mean others have to do it too. In fact, it makes me look stronger when they cry and I don't😛😉....okie...j/k here😆

Well, it all depends on what and where you are working. In every profession, all that matters is that you get your job. Even if it means being emotionally involved. If the person is getting emotional but is able to handle the job then it's fine. If otherwise, then maybe they should rethink about how to handle tough situations.

1. If someone from your team cries on failures, would you ever assign the same individual with similar tasks?
Well, again it all depends on what the task is. We are all human and failure is not something that anyone enjoys. But in a job, I think failure shouldn't even be given a chance. If something goes wrong, the person should have the ability to work on it and make it right. I don't have much work experience but looking at school. I hate it when someone in group projects cry because they can't handle the work. And even in everyday things, some people are not able to handle stress. But they need to learn sooner. Because in jobs everyone should be able to handle it quite well; showing emotions and handling stress should be two different things.

2. Will you personally express emotional in professional environment?
I don't tend to show more emotions that are needed at places that I don't feel are accepetable. I can tell my friends if I find something, but I wouldn't start crying in front of my employer about it. You reduce your own value that way. But then again it all depends on the job that you have. For someone in sports, like you said that can be a pretty big defeat and heart-wrenching. They work hard all year and within few minutes all that hard work goes downhill; it can be pretty stressing and nerve-recking.

Never. Unless one is in public eye like a celebrity, crying in a professional setup is waste of time. 2. Will you personally express emotional in professional environment? Nope.. I don't know how SRGMP or Indian Idol contestants can cry at a drop of a hat. 😕

There was a debate about keeping personal and professional lives seperate and I feel crying is very personal.
