Hi all,

Recently some interesting discussion has been going on related to Akbar.

Here is the link to a post shared by Radhika on my latest thread also; which speaks of many things like how much Akbar was influenced by his Rajput wives and by Birbal to the extent that he started worshiping the Sun, festivals like the Nau Roz that revolved around the sun and even introduced a new calendar and a new era based on the Sun's movement in the sky.

He even kept a hom burning in his palace at all times, under the influence of his Rajput wives. This is what the accounts say, not me. :-P

Abhay
TFS the link to the post :)

The purpose of the post was simple - just to illustrate that Akbar was influenced by many people into adopting various customs and more importantly, adapting his thinking to learn the real nature of God and religion and how to realize the true meaning of life.

I think we do Akbar a grave injustice when we say that he was great in his own right and other people's contribution should not be given any importance. He was great, no doubt - but he was great because he stood on the shoulders of giants and could therefore see father than anyone else.

This post lists only v few people. There are countless others like those who followed the Pushti Marg, for instance. :)

abhay as per smith he worshipped all religions..we all know he went to a sikh guru but had no sikh wife..he invited fathers over and learnt about christainity and also did prayers to jesus but had no christian wife..and yes he did have muslim and hindu wives..but he was eager to learn the relation between god and man from early age..and at the end he amalgamated all the religions and made his own din-e-ilahi..and for this lots of maulawees were unhappy and revolted against him!

Loved reading this. Thank you so much for sharing, really appreciate it 😊

Especially loved reading the part about Zoroastrians and Novroze since I am a half Zoroastrian and have a glass diya burning in the mandir 24*7 all year round in worship of zoroastrian & a few Hindu Gods coz well I am a half Maharashtrian too..

i believe that is taken from smith's book and its about a sufi saint that changed akbar's way of thinking and made him renounce hunting and let the pigeons out of all cages!

@All..
Welcome...

@Soulmates..
Thanks for sharing those personal bits about you. :))

@Mandy..
I have also read Smith, he has also taken the things from the contemporary sources only and some which are his opinions.

BTW in this blog post , the writer has also taken the things from those sources, references for each line are present.

This post is simply an attempt to tell that this sun , fire, hom burning and some other things, which were done by Akbar, had influence of many agencies, and in this we have Birbal, his consorts, and the Zoroastrians, for some thing or the other.!!

While Fazl writes each and everything was done by Akbar BUT Badayuni normally writes what prompted Akbar to do so.! That's a difference in these 2 .! No where Fazl mentions Birbal prompting Akbar to do so or his consorts responsible for this, but Badayuni writes it. Infact, Badayuni has lashed Birbal by saying he was "cursed" as you might have read there, for it. :-P

I have always maintained reading one source never gives complete picture, such complex was Akbar's time. I have tried to write the same difference in above few lines. :)

The post is very simple in style.
Page numbers and what is written in those pages has been copied as it is.
No personal opinion is given in the post. :)

Though, in all articles we give personal opinion also but here we have NOT given any personal opinion in this article, just ended the post by saying readers can well understand Akbar's thought process as per their wish.

@ Palak,

Name of a wife is not given in the text, hence the posts also abstains from giving any name.
It was not only the above two influences, but the Zoroastrians also are mentioned in the post. :)
Cant discuss more here -> Will do it Either on sticky or in PM / DM. :)

Oh is it 😊

I love, adore, respect and am inspired by the real Akbar & HarkaBai/MUZ, they are my real life OTP ☺️ and as long as I get to read about them with references I will not only read it but gobble it all up jumping with glee 😆

I believe Akbar was an open and broad minded person in his religious thinking as well as day to day living, almost a combination of an inquisitive child wanting to learn and know many many things and an adult who will do things and follow things if given valid and proper reasons, who approaches the proper channels to get those valid reasons. So if Harkabai, Birbal, his other Hindu consorts, the Zoroastrian Dastur's, the Sikh Guru's, the Christian Priests, the Hindu Pandits, the Muslim Ulemas/Sufis influenced him in his journey of life and in turn he is influencing/inspiring me and many of us now to believe "Insaniyat hi sabse bada mazhab hota hai" soo many many years later will always be awe worthy to me ❤️
