she stopped talking ,eating still and then shaking her head continued

mouth and fell on the laptop face down
Taani felt a ache in her heart returning and then feeling sorry for anjali said
sympathetically , " im sorry ...i know matlab ...i can understand kaisa lagtha hain.
I know ki abhi aapko lagrahaan hoga ki theres nothing important in the world for
you anymore...i know how it feels... Itna pain hotha hain ki aapko realise ho
jaatha hain ki dil kahaan hain !
Anjali had lifted her head up and stared at taani s soft voice by now her face
running from surprise to shock...realising taani was speaking more to herself

rey s broken face as he said for the last time i love you taani before NDC finals.
she suddenly caught sight of anjali staring at her ,her mouth wide open with the
piece of snack still in her mouth. Taani s face turned red with embarrassment
as she came back to earth and then becoming her own blundering self said
" mera matlab ...it ll be fine..." and picking up the empty plates started to walk
away towards the kitchen hitting her leg on a chair
Anjali swallowed the snack, looked at taani shrewdly as taani hid her face for
a few seconds trying to hide her sudden rush of feelings and embarassment
that she was talking so much to someone she didnt really know.
Taani ho kya jaatha hain tumhe! You know her for 4 days!
taani brought two cups of tea and anjali picked up the glass of tea and sipping it
" recent breakup?" taani didnt respond as she sat on the small chair opposite to
the sofa anjali occupied " first breakup?" no response except for taani flinching.
Anjali gave a knowing look and continued," dont worry the first is the worst,
baad mein becomes better. And you start realising ki that guys are generally not
worth bothering about. They are selfish **** "
taani s frown showed how uncomfortable she was becoming with the
conversation but anjali continued ," they use you , they say they love you and
after a while take you for granted and on top of all this they always think they
are right..."
Taani blurted out defensively ,"sab log ek jaise nahin hothe "
Anjali looked at her and nodded slowly understandingly," tum abhi bhi us ladke
ke baare mein serious ho? " no response...she smiled and shaking her head said
" his loss my dear.. tumhaari jaisi sweet ladki ko koi kaise ditch karsaktha hain?
Kya hua tha? "
Taani blushed and said ," sorry aapki baat chal rahin thi aur main..."
Anjali a small smile on her face easily said ," oh actually im glad im out of it ...
aur complain karna bhi nahin chahiye...kyunki ( grin beginning on her face)
break up maine kiya ... .i was quite bored of him "
taani looked a little surprisedand anjali laughed.Taani smiled inspite of herself
at anjali s change in mood and while anjali grin now on her face, finished the
tea in a gulp and said," well i cant think...chodo wo sab...is baar article copy
paste karnewaali hoon" and collecting her stuff walked to door taani muttering sorry i couldnt help stood at the door
Anjali smiled fondly," no no , waise bhi thanks for the food. I owe you and dont
let me become a nuisance for you"
taani smiled and closed the door saying take care , sab kuch teek hojaayega
Anjali stopped the closing door and smiling broadly you dont worry mere baare
mein, yeh mera fourth break up tha is saal ka...and laughing walked away
leaving taani smiling a little in surprise.
She closed the door and sat on the sofa wondering how people could get over
so easily. Mujhe itna difficulty horahin hain ...shayad sab serious nahin hothe...
shayad sab rey nahin hothe... but Rey jaisa tho koi nahin world mein. Bhai bhi nahin. Wo kabhi bhi selfish
nahin hue hain- breakup ke liye bhi nahin and felt a tenderness for him instead
of the recent confusing feelings she used to have where she tried to pretend
he didnt matter and hide behind a mask.
How she missed him! And he wasnt even interested in talking to her... I guess
unki naarazgi jaayaz hain but ...her eyes stung and she sighed ...shayad mujhe
normally baat karlena chahiye...

College - Boys locker room few days later
Guys doing usual masti entered the locker room smiling - chalo sabko ek junior
buddy milgaya but new girls ko checkout hi nahin kiya humne etc., etc., but wo
jo swayam ki peeche thi wo acchi thi...etc., etc., this s actually nice idea taani ka
And they heard someone mention Taani...they stopped all together to overhear
one guy say "tum kya sach mein taani ko propose karne waale ho?" and they all
except rey moved a little closer
"of course not, matlab abhi nahin. Im just going to ask her if she has a date for
the freshers party bas... and ..." dhruv the sports guy was talking to one of the
other guys and they stopped as they spotted d3 guys staring at them..
dhruv chap looked once at rey and then at swayam and said," umm...i was ..."
"dhruv see, i dont think its a good idea..." swayam s tone final
"but kyun? U know me, achhe se" swayam gave his tough look but the guy
continued sincerely," ive always thoughts shes sweet and now that..."
swayam hesitated slightly looked at rey, rey stared his face showing no emotion
though his hands were in tight fists and he kept them in his pockets to prevent
the urge he was getting of smashing something like dhruv s face right on...
but dhruv looked only at the expressionless face and ," now that ..."
And rey walked right thro the group and to his locker, opened it with unnecessary
force and tried putting his head inside the locker as if the locker would save him
from acting on his urge to hit something.
" tumhe itni possesive nahin hona chahiye apni sister ke liye. Warna wo life mein
move on kaise karegi swayam " dhruv was saying.
The guys looked at one another and vicky said,"right...but dhruv taani ka date
hain freshers party ke liye...as everyone turned to him ) wo mere saath hain...so
better luck next time" sneeringly
Dhruv looked at vicky like he was mad ,then at rey and then at swayam and
then at the other two guys standing next to him confused with their equation and then back at vicky and said smiling
" nice try vicky! But i think i ll just ask her myself" and went out of the locker room with his friends.
Swayam turned to vicky and vicky immediately said " i was lying yaar "and
moved behind nil to save himself from swayam s stern look
"pata hain but ...bohot kharab jhoot tha "
"arre i was trying to see that yeh dhruv ka bachha taani ko na pooche...i mean rey..."
"its not necessary vicky" rey closed the locker with a huge bang thankfully
pulling his head out before closing and turned to them.
"cmon rey. Tum upset ho wo bhi upset hain but kyuch din baad aisa nahin rahega
" vicky its over.. Final. So really... Mujhe koi interest nahin hain..." and started
moving to the door.
The guys looked from one to the other as vicky s more than usually serious voice
continued, "tu kisse jhoot bolrahaan hain rey...humse ya khudh se...interest
nahin hain!"
rey continued to move to the door pretending like he was least concerned
while vicky insisted as swayam stared making stop it faces to vicky ,"
"agar tum dono ke beech sach mein sab kuch over hain tho prove karo...tu..."
"vickynot interested " rey said in a final sort of a voice and walked out of locker room.
The guys giving each other looks of what do we do now? Nothing ...kaise nothing.
..look at him hes so not himself... following him after a moment.
Corridor just outside locker room
Rey had moved a few steps when he banged into someone - he held the person
by the arms and stopped from falling and then looked - hi, U ok? Whats the hurry?
kahaan jaana hain?
The guys out of the locker room stood a few feet away and looked curiously
the girl hesitated," actually ...tumse milne" eyebrow raise questioningly , the girl
looked back at two girls who were standing a little away and trying to act like
they didnt exist and then turning to rey said hurriedly ," wo...i wanted to ask you
if you ...tum mere date banoge freshers party ke liye? "
"sorry sonali, im not..." and then stopped as he saw the guys standing and
giving him challenging looks - he understood they were waiting for him to refuse
so that they could push him towards taani - they smiled all together and he
smiled at the girl in front of him and said " ok... i can ..but only as friends"
he added
Sonali s face broke into a huge smile as she replied," no problem rey...its fine.
I understand. So see you" and he nodded and she nodded and moved to the
other side letting her pass to the two girls who grinned from ear to ear at her
and all three went running away.
He turned to look at the guys , they stared at him shock written clearly on their
faces and he walked away without talking.
"happy? Aur karo challenge!" swayam shot to vicky as poor vicky looked very
upset swayam went after rey , reached him, placed a hand on his shoulder and
for a second they stared at each other - rey daring swayam to say something but
then swayam removing his hand said, " class ke liye late horahaan hain. Chal"
Both walked to class without talking anything further but rey suddenly had a
guilty look on his face.

Classroom
Taani in the classroom alone- Was it just yesterday that she had felt like thinking
about the whole relationshipbreak up status in a different light? Kal hi tho laga
tha ki shayad sab kuch different hosaktha tha- ki shayad mujhe normal...

By then girls ( minus sharon) walked in quickly worried and talking- i hope taani
hasnt heard...hain kahaan wo? haan pata nahin kaise react karegi...itni jaldi !
All guys are the same ...and stopped as they spotted taani sitting in her seat ,
her hands clenched on the desk looking lost...she must ve heard from someone!
The girls looked at each other, went and stood around her.
She looked up at them, at all of them and found them giving her worried
sympathetic looks and felt her eyes sting uncontrollably .
"taani u ok?" rinni
Taani attempted to smile and said blundering," haan haan.. mujhe kya hua hain?
... Main tho bilkul..."
" taani, its okay . We know tum upset..." simmi began while Aashi sat next to
her and placed a hand on taani . Taani avoiding eyecontact with all of them
suddenly got up , she didnt want anyones sympathy, picked her bag and saying
" main... Mujhe...VP sir haan VP sir..." and started walking to the door, hitting
her leg on the desks and chairs and muttering sorry sorry to nothing in particular
kept moving and banged into...rey at the classroom door.
He instinctively held her arm , she said thanks by habit and then met his eyes,
standing close to him as he held her by the arm and steadied her- he saw a flash
of hurt expressions , the questions in her eyes familiar to him by now but she
pushed his hand away harshly angrily almost immediately making the guilt in
his eyes change to sudden anger and without another word or look walked out
ignoring swayam standing next to rey and not even seeing the guys who had
come in then.
There was silence for amoment and then just as rey started walking in , sharons
loud voice came in from behind them " REY! R U MAD?" the guys visibly flinched
and literally ran inside , the girls gave looks of good ! swayam attempted to stop
her while rey turned to her and his voice stern said," no sharon im not and im
sure you dont want to be as well, so STOP SCREAMING " she stopped shocked
at his unusually stern tone.
Swayam stared at him his heart sinking at the realisation that rey s bitterness
was only increasing.
