Their love story began when Chandragupta while riding through river Jhelum had secretly seen Helen playing with her hand maiden.
Mesmerized with the rare Greek beauty and her charm Chandragupta fell in love instantly. Being from humble background he however thought of claiming her hands of Helen by marrying her.
He confessed this desire to marry Helen to his counsellor Chanakya. The learned man counselled that the only way to seek her was by declaring war against Seleucus. Soon he triumphed which alarmed Seleucus about the rise of Chandragupta maurya in north India.
Meanwhile he had expressed his love to Helen by sending messages through carrier pigeon.
Helen too was smitten by this ardent suitor from India. It is then Helen got to know through her maiden that her suitor is a Hindhu and doesn't acknowledge Greek religion. Still she had formed an image of the Hindu emperor in her mind and loved him immensely.
Later in 305 BC Seleucus was defeated. As per Chanakya's advice Chandragupta invited Seleucus for a meeting.
here Chandragupta offered a truce and alliance for Helen's hand. To allay the feelings of Seleucus the Indian emperor handed him war elephants as token of gift. Greek king gave large area of Afghanistan and other territory to Indian emperor.
Later when he entered the palace of Greek king Helen was equally delighted to see the man in real with whom she was deeply in love.. the two got married to live happily ever after.
Don't know whether this is a true story. In the show Helen once said she was married against her will to Chandragupta.
