what can I say about today's episode?
Each week, we get atleast one episode that is an example of excellence

And that is usually on Mondays

And I say to myself, it can't get better than this!

But every Monday as if, Babbal JI sends a message

...itni jaldi impress ho gayi... Last week toh kuch nahi tha...

Abhi toh shuruat hai excellence ki...

Today's episode was beyond words, I am so overwhelmed!

It was philosophical, it dealt with some very fundamental questions

And as dadi said, it heralded the breaking of dawn - abhyudaya

Nanu, for all his evil is a learned man, and has complete faith in the ancient gyan and Vidya and his explanation to Grerson, About ancient Indian system of learning - through Smriti ( memory) and Shruti ( listening ) was so wonderful

It is way of learning where knowledge resides in legends, stories, folk lore, where gyan is like river running through time, and put down such knowledge in books is like capturing the flow of a river in pages.

Such gyan requires a guru, and cannot be obtained by mere reading of books!

If this whole discourse by nanu wasn't impressive enough, the scene moved to the conversation between dadi shiva and Rudra

And then we were witness to a debate on another vital question. The question of what is Swarth, and paramarth - selfishness versus salvation, and how one can be mistaken for the other. It also delved into fight for personal revenge versus fight for greater good.

What shiva considers paramarth, dadi considers his swarth - because dadi sees it from a smaller view point - Shivas perseverance will once again put her kutumb ( family, clan ) into danger, hence to her it's his selfishness

Shiva, who knows that this game is much bigger and it's not about revenge - revenge is just a feeling, the enemies are not these, and war is about soemthing far bigger!

For Rudra, it's all about preserving what little they have, to save his own is more important than destroying the enemy... His desire to preserve his loved ones is becoming bigger than his quest for revenge - he too has a limited view and so chooses to side with his dadi...

And while I was still grappling with these profound questions, we had that beautiful beautiful beautiful conversation between dadi and pota... Dadi who hasn't been able to comprehend her son's larger vision and vishal budhdhi, could compeletly read her grand sons Chota sa dil and udaas eyes.

And again we heard the wonderful old lady talk about what is the real meaning of a home, and how it's ok to be nirash( disappointed ) but not hataash( defeated ).

As the wise old woman soothed her grandson, by the side of Ganga, compeletly at home, dawn broke and she proclaimed - abhi tak hamara ast ho raha tha, ab Uday hoga ( till now we were like the setting sun, now it's time for sunrise - our stars are poised to rise ,...)

Also impactful was the simple trick played be tiwari ji to explain how we are polluting Ganga - a simple yet very very impactful, tad a little dramatic way of winning over all sides !

And to win the religious gurus, Tiwari ji spoke their langauge and used their aastha in Ganga Maiyya to sensitize them to the ill treatment being done to Ganga Maiyya !

His Joy at seeing dadi was so spontaneous and he called her dadi too - kya Kahani hai? Yeh Sawaal Kal ke liye...

And the one scene that I have left for the last - the shortest scene of the day probably,

but for me it was also the most telling - the scene between Maya and balivesh -

she has changed and how, by physically tying her in ropes, he has freed her of all bondages - her

smile, her words - what was that smile - a mixture of scorn for him, a sense of liberation,

the smile of woman who has no fear, for whom death will be a welcome relief!

It was not a simple episode. Nor was it easy to understand, it was the kind of episode where we will learn something new everytime we watch it.

It was a gagar main sagar episode, it was peep into our past, it was a step towards the future, it stood still, it moved forward, it looked within, it expanded outward ...

It was really really the best episode for me till now.

utkarsh - you really were yatha naam tatha gun - superlative - the writing was per excellent

The scene on the sand - brilliant camera work!

See this episode, savour it, reflect upon it, it has so much food for thought...

Wonderful episode & I love reading your take on the episode. Fabulous post.

The points you have raised - so true it is not about revenge. Shiva and his Panth have something that Nanu, Balivesh & Greyson covet, they will not stop cos the prize is Amrut - immortality. So they will try to use all and every way possible to get it. Shiva is not bent on revenge but on preservation.
Dadi does not understand this cos she has no idea of what Shiva has faced, so he knows how these peopel will not stop. For Shiva it is not about revenge but about protection.

If as Dadi says Kalpavas and service is their path in life then surely protection of that Amrut, not to let that fall into wrong hands - should also be their duty. Does Dadi think they should just serve not worry about preservation cos God will take care of it? God has chosen his men to protect - only Dadi does not yet know it.

Which led me to wonder - would they hand out the water from Saraswati Kund to everybody who comes to them? What if the seeker is a person like Balivesh? Maybe - how - or - if - it works depends on the past karma of the person par-taking it.

For all her knowledge and prowess over her :indriyas: Dadi has led a sheltered life. She has no idea of the evil that can and will come to confront them.

I could understand Rudra's answer. Shiva always knew that Rudra will have survived, he is Shreshtham Garud after all, born to fulfill his destiny. He also knew he would survive - Rudra did not know this. He lost something so precious at young age and after having lost Udiya Baba and Maimuyi also, Rudra has found his family back again. Nothing will matter to him as much as saving protecting them.

Even for his incarceration of 24 years Shiva had the confidence - Rudra did not - having done without his family for 24 years and found them he now knows what he cherishes most.

When Balivesh got word that Animesh is serious - the look Maya gave was one of taunt but also of retribution - they used Maya to take Maimuyi from Rudra - till Nanu & Balivesh lose their own they will not feel the pain that Rudra felt.

Hi Arshi, thanks for putting up your thread so unfailingly. i watched bit not sure i got the half of it...
today was not my favourite episode... It felt like a cross-roads with way too much traffic...

and very disappointed with MKs TVT scores... when will people ever watch the well-made show instead of the spoon-fed pap? Hope AB & Co will not be too discouraged by the response...

Dadi & Rudr are now on the same page? Poor Sivanand. Attagirl Maya - that was a very spirited show.

Great take Arshi.
Very good episode. But not great. Couple of things were glaring. And those had to do with dadi.
First, Nanu ji gives great Gyan on the Indian learning tradition. Utkarsh by now is a master in creating these situations and writing these lines.
Maya -- is totally liberated from fear. She has nothing to cling on to. That knowledge liberates.
But unfortunately or fortunately Rudra is now clinging to her mentally. Right around the same time that she liberated, he got engulfed in her love!!!😳
Arshi, --- I know we differ on Maya. I feel Maya was shown in a very casual and careless way initially. Its only since the last few episodes that the writers have been doing some justice to her character.
Tiwari ji is a changed person since the revelation. Earlier he looked grim and tight. Now he has that confidence in him. The revelation was for us and Charles right?😆 His talk about the need to protect and clean Ganga and how this cannot be ignored in the name of Ashtaa was great. Hit the right cord. Again, Jai ho Utkarsh!!
Coming to the big scenes.
Dadi and Shivanand face-off was well conceptualized but Dadi came out as high-handed and foolish too. She cuts him when he utters the word Amrit and doesn't let him finish. Bandhan hai par sirf asthaa se hi?
Shivanand is still polite. She chides him for bringing Rudra into this. That's when he feels the pinch and the father in him wakes up. He asserts he is the father and tells that Rudra needs to have a mind on his own. He trusts Rudra because he told him everything. On how this chihna is their destiny and how they are garudas born with a duty to protect Amrit from selfish people. And how this is not something petty. After this, he thinks Rudra will take his side. Loved the scene. Shivanand is my favorite character of the show.
And Rudra gives a reply that is shocking? He choses to side with dadi on giving marham patti. Marham patti to whom? the kalpawasis? Or to themselves. That was little misplaced. If he would have said that he sides with dadi and wants to keep the family together and re-establish seva, it might have been better?
I put a question mark because I think Rudra might be still on Shivanand's side. Shivanand showed how that chihna was unavoidable. And the whole argument was so convincing. He lamented earlier that dadi hasn't forgiven his baba. And he knows he is stuck between his baba and dadi. He knows his father will prevail eventually. But this is not the time to create more chisms in the family. So he pretended to be on dadi's side. And he knows shivanand will not go against his dadi.
He needed answers to Udiya baba and Maimui's murders and he repeatedly told dadi that he will not forgive the murderers. He knows the perpetrators. He even beat one of them to death. Does dadi know this? So Rudra might be faking it.
Or he is still naive? He wants to cling on to what he has and be sentimental. He suffered a lot and maybe wants to be content. Take those murderers to task and live happily with his family? Let's see.
Dadi asked Rudra how he survived and where he has been. She suffered a lot too. But never asked Shivanand where he was. Though he was responsible for this hell in her eyes, he suffered too. He was a hostage for 24 years. Not in yogic samadhi but in living hell.
But the same dadi is able to read Rudra's face like a book. Not only his predicament but his feelings to the T. REally???
Her dialogues about ghar were great. And her sudden excitement about Suryodaya was good but the whole thing didn't have to be so sermonizing. She is not an ordinary woman but somehow that scene felt too sudden.
Tiwari calls her dadi? Recognizes her after 24 years? Naata gehra lagta hai.

As usual great post Arshi.
I liked nanu's lecture on Indian education system, I feel it's true smiriti and shruti is required for good education, unfortunately now a days modern views on concept learning has ruined education system.

Shiva and Dadi both strong in their views, I feel Dadi is still naive believes in good work, which is sometimes not enough.

I liked Maya today, her sarcastic smile said everything.

On the whole good episode for me.

Writing a common reply to all due to shortage of time...

@MaddyO - you hit the nail on the head-

The whole episode was about preservation... Dadi wants to preserve her world as it was - even Shiva is not allowed to threaten that

Rudra wants to preserve whatever little he has, and so revenge is no longer worth it..

Shiva is looking at the preservation of Shrishti itself, and knows that it is inevitable.

Quoting you - protection of that Amrut, not to let that fall into wrong hands - should also be their duty.

What of the guru?what is mouni baba's duty?should the gyan be allowed to fall into wrong minds?

that was the question that kept haunting me, So utkarsh carried it further through the Amrit parallel.

Thanks for that.

@Arijit - yes, the war is inevitable and it will be a dharma yudh, bigger than any... while the nagas as we saw are together, and preparing for it, ekjut, the rakshaks are not even aware, and those who are aware, are unwilling.

Shiva has a tough task to even get the army together...

@happy, Santhi..

yes at first it seemed to be too many elements, but then as always it had a common thread -

we look at everything from our vantage point, that selfishness and selflessness are but a point of view and not absolutes

Santhi, coming to dadi, of course she was hard and rigid with Shiva, but so different with Rudra

she is a woman who just wants to live her life in the way she once did, and her son's zid has brought about complete destruction of that world... she cannot and will not understand and condone that

the thing is too huge for her to fathom, and her Shiva's quest for knowledge may have saved the world for everyone, but it also destroyed his mother's world...

Aren't we all like that - rigid and unbending for some and warm and loving for others

@Happy
: well, we wanted a show that will make his think, that will shake us up and where there will be no absolutes, where people are real and emotions are complex, and Black and White are but two facets which will keep shifting...
TRP was never to be too high, so I am sure even Babbalji will not be disheartened by this...

This show makes a dimaag ka dahi and leaves you with so many questions of who's right who's wrong.
wouldn't you rather give your TRP to the saas bahu show on the next channel where all you have to do, give rest to your dimmag, because the roti hui saree clad bahu will always be right and scantily clad bhabhi/saas/ girl friend will be the vamp ... much easier to hitch on to...

@ paljay - sahi baat on the education system, this is my field and I was specially impressed by the wise words from this evil Dalvesh..

Good episode and a better post from you Arshi.
Rudra siding with Daadi was surprising, considering how he told her the other day 'har ek ghar ka badla lene hum'. He hasn't yet understood the big picture about the Amrit and Shivanand's quest to save it. He will come around. He'll believe all this once he meets the other Garudas.

What about Daadi. How much of this big picture does she know. Does she know that the Amit will come on the last day of this MK, about the 7garuds, the nagas etc..The moment Shivanand begins to talk about Amrit, she cuts him off.

The scene at the beach was good. Earlier it was with Maimui's and today Daadi. Both speaking words of wisdom. But Maimui said that if he is in doubt, to look for the answers himself(to me it's like refer to your heart). Whereas Daadi says if you are in a dilemma about something, come to me. That's.a tough one if she says one thing and his heart says something else..

Tiwari's trick was good. He seemed happily surprised to see Daadi.
