Enveloped by the moonlit sky adorned with shimmering stars, the city slept peacefully cocooned in the tranquil embrace of the hours of darkness. Gentle breeze greeted the quiescent asphalt roads, brimming with life merely minutes ago. A deafening screech pierced the eerie saturnine of the atmosphere followed by a loud curse, "Holy shit!"
Clad in a white collared shirt with sleeves trimly folded till elbow and a black tight-fit trouser, a lady in her early twenties was fidgeting with the bonnet wires of her BMW. Apparently, a BMW had broken down on the inaccessible deserted road. With her eyebrows scrunched up in unreserved concentration and fine lines of aggravation marring her perspiration coated forehead, she tried for the umpteenth time to make that humongous inanimate machine function.
"Damn you! Couldn't you find a better place and time to backstab me?" She sighed, frustrated. Tired of her uneventful monotonous life at office the only thing that she wanted at that point of time was to reach home and nestle in the warmth of her family. The last thing on her mind was to be abandoned by her car at a desolate place... but then life was, well, unpredictable. Dejected, she decided to go with her last resort- usage of God gifted innate means of locomotion. Locking the doors of the car, she glared at it muttering curses under her breath, "Legs are loyal unlike heartless things like you!" Chuckling at certain silly thoughts she began her journey of 5 minutes' walk, the unnerving silence her sole companion.
She felt it AGAIN.
The sensation of being stalked overwhelmed her senses. She twirled around, almost snapping her neck in the process, only to be welcomed by the sinister murkiness of the road. Had she been imagining things lately? Maybe the tedious work-load at office was taking up a toll on her and damaging her sanity. She mentally chided herself for assuming things. But as she resumed her walk, she felt it again- a pair of mystic orbs spearing through her form caressing her soul and wreaking havoc within her. Her gut intuition warned her against an impending disaster.
Adrenaline coursed within her body as her primal instincts surged to the surface. Gathering the last ounce of her courage she sprinted at a rapid pace, thus, reaching her destination at a record time of 2 minutes. She heaved a sigh of relief as she caught sight of the familiar gates of a colossal mansion standing proudly upon a vast stretch of terrain- The Agarwaal Mansion."Finally my love, here I come!!" Lowering her pace, nonchalantly walked within the premises, the nerve-racking incident only minutes ago long forgotten and greeted the watchman.
Camouflaged by the uncanny tenebrous darkness of the witching hours, a silhouette stood behind an old peepal tree, centimeters apart from the main gates of the mansion. His molten caramel orbs unwaveringly fixed at the nave petite feminine figure he had been following, rather stalking, since 2 years now. He took in her features for the last time of the day as she crossed the threshold of her home and then disappeared from his sight. "Sanyukta..." Her name rolled out as a mere whisper. He licked his lips savoring the feel of her name and walked away, lips curved into a sinister lopsided smirk.
