Shah Rukh Khan has finally given in to his Devdas director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's, request and agreed to postpone the release of his home production Om Shanti Om for Saawariya. Sanjay's Saawariya will mark the debut of Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor and Sanjay had spoken to SRK about possibly delaying the release of Om Shanti Om to give the two debutants a fair chance at the box office. Om Shanti Om will now hit the theatres two weeks after its original release date.
"Sanjay and Shah Rukh go back a long way. When both movies were scheduled for release on November 9th coinciding with the Diwali break, Sanjay was quite unhappy and wanted SRK to postpone releasing his movie," says a source close to the movie, "SRK was on his annual holiday and as soon as he returned, Sanjay met him to discuss the change in dates. Initially SRK wasn't too keen about changing dates but looks like he has finally agreed to his friend's request."
Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been very tight-lipped about his film but has high hopes. He has made it clear on more than one occasion that he feels the two debutants will go on to have illustrious careers in the industry and therefore deserved a fair chance at the box office. "Shah Rukh is the biggest superstar in the country. There are no two things about it. Whether Om Shanti Om releases on November 9th or a fortnight later on November 24th, it won't make a difference to SRK but it can have an effect on Ranbir and Sonam's career. SRK understands that and therefore has been most gracious to accept his friend's request to delay the movie," reveals the source.
Both directors, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Farah Khan, have been very secretive about their upcoming movies. Saawariya stars Ranbir, Sonam, Rani Mukherji and another of Bhansali's favourites – Salman Khan while Om Shanti Om stars SRK, Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal and Shreyas Talpade.
