Part 7
The next day Madhu decided to call off the mission. She had decided to submit the report that Rishabh was not the man they were searching for and had no extraordinary capabilities.
She had thought about it the whole night and somewhere she found RK was right. Nobody can and nobody should force someone to do a certain thing against his will. Even if it is for a noble reason.
"Hello General.." she said as she talked on the phone.
"Congratulations Agent Malik.." he almost screamed delighted from the other side.
"Congrats? For what?" She asked baffled.
"We have got him..." he said victoriously.
"Him? Who?" She asked dreading.
"Rishabh Kundra.. who else.." he said.
"but i hadnt forwarded my report.. I havent confirmed of him having any powers." She said panicking.
"You dont need now Agent.. We are just sure of everything and when I told the Brigadier about last night's events, he was adamant on getting him with us as soon as possible. We cant afford to miss him again this time.." the General told her the details.
"Have you arrested him?" Madhu asked in a horrified daze as blood had drained from her face.
"No but I am sure our men must be about to reach.." The General said. "Agent I want you to keep an eye on him lest he would run away before our men..."
The cellphone slipped from Madhu's hands as she ran out of her apartment with all her might to let him know that he was in danger. She ran to his door but found it open. She looked around for RK but she couldn't find him. Her heart was beating so hard that she could hear it clearly. She ran out of the building and when she reached the driveway, she saw what she had feared.
There stood the van of their agency, and a few men were escorting RK inside while he was handcuffed securely. Madhu stood there rooted to the ground as she stared at the scene infront. That's when RK looked at her. She wanted to get herself invisible or just vanish from there because she couldnt bear the blame, complaints and hate that reflected from his eyes as he walked closer to the van. She had been used to love showering through his eyes for her but what she saw now was as if he hated her bitterly. Well.. what she did to him did call for such hatred but then what else could she do..? It was her duty. She stood where she was, as she saw him enter the van and it drove off. When the vehicle was out of sight, suddenly her legs gave way and she fell. She was feeling teared up between her duty and her love. Yes, she loved him. In all this drama of trying to come closer to him, she actually couldn't keep herself in hold and fell for him. She could see all the moments they spent together in the last 3 months playing in front of her eyes. And then she saw the hatred filled accusing eyes of his. She closed her eyes in pain as a tear escaped.
-------
Madhu entered the interrogation room hurriedly, where she was told RK was taken to. As soon as she entered the room she saw RK sitting on the chair. There was a table in front of him, and the General was standing infront.
"Look Mr. Kundra.. you are not some criminal that we should keep you confined here. But we have no choice either." The General was reasoning with him when he noticed Madhu enter the room.
"Ohh. Agent Malik.. You are here.." he said almost delighted.
RK looked at her and he was almost taken aback. He hadn't even noticed her enter before. Why? She wasnt his Madhu. She looked a totally different woman. Her strict demeanour in the gray uniform that hugged her. Her hair which used to flow in the air and fall on her face were now securely tied. And even they were too disciplined. He remembered how he had sometimes tugged the frill* of her hair falling on her face, behind her ear. But even with the hard face he could notice a certain panic on her face. For a second RK thought that she was worried for him, but then he brushed off the idea as he remembered the woman standing there was tge very reason for his plight. He hated her, notfor getting him arrested for nothing, but for betraying him and his feelings. Even though now he knew shhe had lied to him but seeing her now he felt as if every single moment he had spent with her was slapped on hs face. Nothing ever held any truth behind it. Not even her.
"General, we need to talk.." Madhu said trying to maintain as much formality in her tone as she could. She tried to ignore RK's piercing gaze but she could feel it on her even without looking at him.
"Yes Agent, even I was waiting for you.. Mr. Kundra is not ready to speak up a word.. Maybe he would talk to you.." the General said helplessly as since half an hour he had been trying to explain things to him but he had decided to just look at the floor and respond nothing except for a few glares.
"Can we have a word.." Madhu said to the general pleadingly.
"Fine.. already I am too tired of speaking all alone.." the general said and walked out.
--------------
"Sir I want to meet him. Alone" Madhu said the general as they came out of the room.
"Yes ofcourse you can go.. afterall its because of you we got him down.." the general said praisingly.
Madhu felt guilty hearing him. She hadnt ever wanted Rishabh to be stuck like this. Chained like a criminal.
"Sir.. there's another request.. Can you please switch off the cameras while I talk to him" Madhu asked hesitantly.
"You know Agent, thats against our security" the general said shrugging that he can do the least about it.
"Yes sir.. but it might turn a little personal" she said as her emotions started building in her eyes.
"I am sorry... thats out of my hand.." he said shaking his head sympathetically.
Madhu nodded. "I can understand" and walked off.
