Chhavi Pandey who's switched gears from music to acting shot to stardom as Tara in Ek Boond Ishq. The Patna girl who grew up in a middle-class family confesses to being "a completely a different person" when "I put on grease paint." On her second trip to Ahmedabad to promote her new show, Bandhan - Saari Umar Humein Sang Rehna Hai, Chhavi chatted with AT while getting her hair styled and followed it with a confession - "I don't like to wear makeup at all, par kya karein - it is part of my job profile."

Excerpts from an interview: You've always wanted to become a singer always, we hear.
Absolutely. Music is and will always remain my first love. I am a big fan of Lata Mangeshkar, Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam. I came to Mumbai to pursue my singing dreams and I got a chance to perform in India's Got Talent.
So why did you shift gear from singing to acting?
During IGT, Sonali Bendre complimented me that I've a cute face for TV serials and I should give it a try. I didn't think much of it at that time but after coming back to Patna as I was watching few TV soaps - I decided to take it up. But, convincing my dad was the most difficult task for me. I went to dad and told him that I wanted to try my luck for a year. He was okay with me taking up singing and was shocked and threw a major fit when I said I wanted to be an actress. The next few days there was a big family drama at home. I'm sure even proposing someone would be easier than convincing my dad was. (Laughs) Finally, he agreed on the condition that my mom will stay with me in Mumbai and I was cool with it. And in Mumbai, was it difficult to get that first break? Not really. In fact, I got finalized for Sajda Tere Pyaar Mein. But, that entire signing contract thing was too scary for a newbie like me and so out of nervousness I declined the role. Post that Teri Meri Love Stories happened and then came Ek Boond Ishq. I think I was lucky to get to work with a superb cast comprising Vishwajeet Pradhan and Viraf Patel. When you work with good actors, you get to learn a lot. And now, I have got this role in Bandhan about which I am very excited.
Set reminders for your favourite TV Shows
Is music going to take a backseat now?
Even on sets, I carry my harmonium and tanpura and do my riyaaz. I have few zero tracks loaded in my mobile, so I keep practicing whenever I have some time off camera. In future, I would love to cut an album on fusion music.
Are you single?
Very much! I never have time out of work to come across someone interesting. And for me, if love happens - I will want to marry that person.
