STORY
The story revolves around a little girl Biniya played by Shreya Sharma who finds a blue umbrella falling from the sky. The little girl roams around in the whole village showing off her beautiful umbrella to everybody. Soon people become jealous of her prized possession and wants to have that but the girl is not ready to part with her little dreamy article. Pankaj Kapur, who plays a tea stall owner by the name of Nandkishore Khatri, too wants the umbrella but the girl refuses to part with her prized possession.
However, suddenly one day Shreya's umbrella goes missing and all efforts to search that meet with failure. Now, all the villagers are sad for the little girl as she loves the umbrella very much.
The film is an adaptation of a short story of the same name written by the reputed writer on children's matter Ruskin Bond.
PERFORMANCE
Pankaj Kapur's performance is par excellence. He is a treat to watch in the role of a tea stall owner. He is natural to the core. Shreya Sharma as Biniya is also good. Other cast members have provided able support.
The direction by Vishal Bhardwaj is superb and the subject has been handled with sensitivity. The music by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics by Gulzar are also good.
STARDUST VERDICT
The movie is well made but will not find many takers at the box office due to its being a children film. A poor fare at the box office.
