DBB First Song- 'Calcutta Kiss'

Trust Dibakar Banerjee to do things differently! For his upcoming film Detective Byomkesh Bakshy set in the 1940s, Dibakar devised a unique strategy to launch the first song. "He wanted to make this songlaunch special and memorable. The song is called Calcutta Kiss and is an ode to his city - Calcutta, as it was called back then," says a source adding that instead of going by the formulaic norms of the industry, Dibakar decided to do it in an unconventional way. "He wanted to pay tribute to the Howrah Bride and on the occasion of its '72nd birthday', 50 people held a flash mob early in the morning on the bridge, dancing to the tunes of Calcutta Kiss," revealed the source. The flash mob is not the only thing that was planned. The director and his team made a documentary on the Howrah Bridge talking about the history of the bridge. The documentary video is around two and half minutes long.

But why Howrah Bridge? Says Dibakar, "My film is set in the same time zone when the bridge was constructed. Unfortunately, the bridge was never inaugurated due to security concerns. The British feared that the Japanese who were organizing aerial attacks on Calcutta will bomb the bridge as well. Even reporters and photographers were not allowed to write or click photographs of the same. In my film too, we have captured the essence in few scenes where you will find a reference to the bridge. And Calcutta cannot be complete without the bridge. My film too is incomplete without it and hence we decided to pay homage to the bridge."
