However, in the week 14, we found him losing cool over Sonali for small issues. The interesting observation is, it was always when he wanted to impress his Karu(asking Karishma to choreograph dance and sideline Sonali, picking out Karishma's name for secret Santa, returning Sonali's Christmas gift, arguing with Sonali because she had long back called Karishma as dumb, proving to Karishma how he was not falling for any of Sonali's angle when she tried to get in his bed, growing possessive over your Karu, asking her why was she talking to Pritam/Sonali).

As viewers, we had long back seen the seeds of love sprouting and had predicted how he was falling head over heels for Karishma and poor Sonali just ended up being in the way, everytime he wanted to impress his Karu and convey how important she is for him. It was also precisely then when he lost his interest in the game and had made Karishma the centre of his existence in that house. It was also the reason why he felt extremely sad on getting evicted and why he forced his way back into the home to be with Karishma (of course in doing so, he unknowingly ended up ruining Karishma's chances for winning because now everyone took UPMA's romance as fake showmance and hated Karishma even more).

In short, the love story of UpMa not only ruined Upen's chances once upon a time but have also ruined Karishma's chance (most probably) now.
