Meet Bhavesh Patel, Photographer of LUX Perfume Portraits
Mavis Ngui | 20 January 2015
Bhavesh Patel is a talented visually impaired photographer from India. Relying on his inner creative compass, he captured beautiful shots that have been featured in exhibitions organised by the "Beyond Sight Foundation", and Alliance Franaise cultural centre in Delhi. He is currently working with BarrierBreak, an organisation that provides assistive technology and solutions to people with disabilities.
His photography journey began four years ago when he participated in workshops as a student at St. Xavier's College. This sparked his interest and he went on to study photography, and joined the "Blind with Camera" project. He has come a long way in those four short years, and continues to find inspiration and strength in his art.
Instead of being hindered by his impairment, Bhavesh sees it as a valuable opportunity to express the beauty that he senses around him. More importantly, he sees it as a way to inspire other people with the message that anything is possible. He wants to tell the world, "If you want to do something, you'll find a way."
Photography has given him a feeling of belonging to a larger purpose as well as a huge sense of pride at having accomplished what was seemingly impossible. As a photographer, he loves taking shots of nature, and people at their most natural selves.
In Lux's Perfume Portraits, he photographed one his favourite celebrities Katrina Kaif, by letting the power of her beautiful fragrance guide him to create vivid and breathtaking images. His experience proves without a doubt that true beauty lies beyond what the eye can see.
Bhavesh, together with other visually impaired photographers from India, has been featured on the BBC. Read more here: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-19754586
