
Born and raised in Patna, Bihar, Sushant grew up as the youngest of five siblings. He excelled academically and in extra-curriculars at St. Karen's School in Patna and Kulachi Hans Raj School in Delhi, and placed All India Rank 7 in AIEEE, which earned him a place at Delhi College of Engineering. While studying at DCE, Sushant got his first taste of showbusiness when he decided to take a class at the Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts. Sushant soon joined Barry John's acting classes along with Shiamak's elite dance troupe and performed at award shows and major international events. Having enjoyed his first taste of the world of entertainment, Sushant decided to move to Mumbai. He got off to a running start, performing in plays with Nadira Babbar's theatre group, learning action with Allan Amin, continuing dancing under Ashley Lobo, and serving as an Assistant Director to Mohit Suri on Raaz 2. With a resume full of elite credentials, it was only time before Sushant was picked up by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms to start a career on television. Passion, perseverance, and undying ambition pushed Sushant quickly through the ranks to a Bollywood debut in UTV and Abhishek Kapoor's film Kai Po Che. With a slew of high profile releases on his slate, Sushant has solidified his position as one of the industry's rising stars.
Sushant has been dating television actress and former co-star Ankita Lokhande for the past five years. The couple currently resides in a custom Malad flat with their dog, Scotch, and they plan to marry soon. In his rare free time, Sushant enjoys books on a variety of topics, films, music, cricket, martial arts, and learning new dance forms. In the year 2014, Sushant joined the social media site Twitter as @itsSSR, and has gained over fifty thousand followers in a short amount of time. He frequently tweets inspirational quotes, posts exclusive pictures of himself and loved ones, and engages in discourse with both fans and colleagues.
Along with his acting and dancing accomplishments, Sushant is the face of Pepsi Atom, Garnier Men, Pizza Hut, and Nestle Munch, and has featured in television and print advertisements for all four brands. He has graced the covers of the the Indian editions of Filmare, Vogue, People and Men's Health magazines, and has appeared in spreads in Elle and Grazia. Sushant earned numerous Best Actor awards during his time on television, and has also received Best Newcomer awards for his debut year in films.
