I'm requesting some film recommendations. When I first started watching Bollywood films (in early 2000s), watching Bolly films was so much fun. There were so many good films. In the past few years, I'm enjoying Bolly films less and less. I didn't even bother watching some of the recent rom-coms and masalas because there is just nothing different or tempting about them. Lead couples are boring, and so are the stories. The last film I enjoyed was Haider. I'm turning more and more to South films as I'm starting to find them more entertaining than recent Bolly films. But I'm sure there must be some films from late 90s, 2000s and early 2010s that I forgot to watch.
So please share your top favorite films from this phase. I like wholesome films with family sentiment, good drama and good music. But I also like neo-noir, thriller, horror, satire, psychological thriller genres. So I'm basically up for anything.

Also recommend some good South films from this time period if you watch South films. My all time favorite film is the Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu (original of Bhool Bhulaiyya). Psychological thriller + horror + classical dance = great film. I've seen over 400 films and I haven't seen any that beats this one.

Thank you in advance!

I wanted to see his highness abdulla but couldn't find it. I love Mohanlal's films. I just got Thenmavin Kombath, will see it soon :) will look through the rest of your recommendations.

Hindi

Udaan
Rocket Singh
Bheja Fry
Khosla ka Ghosla
Manorama Six Feet Under
Satya
Kaun
Mr and Mrs. Iyer
Gangster
Aamir (Not a very happy movie, though! )

I myself watch very few South movies these days but some of the recent Malayalam movies are real real good.

Ustad Hotel
Drishyam
Bangalore Days
Along with these, these are some other pretty famous movies

Tamil :

Kannathil Muthamittal
Kandukonden kandukonden
Anjali
Alaipayuthey
Rhythym
Kakha Kakha
Anniyan
Jigarthanda
Pithamagan and many more. 😳

There are so many other Mani Rathnam and Kamal Hassan's movies but most of them do not fall in the late 90s or Early 2000s list. They belong to the early 90s. 😆
