not only do they say it is hard to understand women, but more so, it is impossible to understand their heart, which has more complex permutations and combinations of emotions than a math problem.
Shobha is only one such woman, who is not pragmatic, but works on emotions alone. They over-ride every decision in her life and her priorities are always based on these emotions. Is that a stupid thing to do? Yes. But is that what a lot of women do? Yes again. Shobha is a very real character, even though she has stupefied me in the past couple of episodes with her naivete, stupidity and overall loss of good sense.
Her not seeing through Vikram when he told her to go back to Samarth was one such time when Shobha just came across as stupid. As women, we are blessed to have a certain sense of intuition when it comes to men, especially those that creep us out or those that are attracted towards us or in love with us. She seems to have not an ounce of that ability. Today, in the office scene, the way in which Vikram reacts to her resignation should have been another big red light about his love for her. She overlooks that as well.
Her going back to Samarth was the single most dumb decision possible. But, that's because we are looking at our beloved Vikram's broken heart and we want an independent woman. But, we have seen that Shobha was immensely in love with Samarth before the fiasco. She was happy and content in her life with her husband and kids. In her words, it was a perfect life. Now that he is back, and the chance of probably regaining that life back, it is believable that she wants to give it another chance. She loved Samarth so much, she never saw through his pretense. Sometimes when we love someone so much, however wrong they are, we hold on to the tatters simply because living in that pseudo dream is better than accepting the harsh reality of having to move on entirely. What stumps me is that she was living without him already, so it shouldn't be an earth shattering thought anymore. But, I think it is also Sarika and Usha's claims of Vikram and her, that shook her up and I think that is partly the reason for her decision. She is in denial, and it seems blasphemous to her.
However, the journey that Shobha, as a character has been on since Samarth's lies got exposed, kind of belittles what they are showing now. Going back to Samarth for the kids is one thing, but completely willing to overlook the fact that he has cheated on her, not with one, but numerous women, and over a prolonged period of time. THAT is something no woman can make peace with, not when you love that man so much. It shakes you up and it makes you scared of him in fact. But she is doing dinner dates easily and listening to his vishesh tippani about leaving her job. The minute he told her she doesn't need to work, I expected a full blown temper from Shobha. But, she subserviently took it. What was the whole journey so far about then, if she has not yet learnt to stand up for herself? The whole bit has gone to waste. Yes, she may accept him back for emotional reasons, but taking his self imposed authority and going back to a subservient wife, especially after the roller coaster she has been on, is so indigestible.
Tomorrow in the pre cap too, she tells vikram, Samarth told her she can go to work, so she is back. What the hell was that? It is ok to show a woman who is emotional instead of pragmatic, but after the growth in her character, and being such a strong independent woman, to show her going back to being a dependent and passive woman, is a big blow to Shobha's character. I wanted to hit her for saying Samarth said yes. I hope Vikram doesn't accept her back, simply on the basis of the fact that he needs to run a company with independent people, not with employees who need permission for everything from their scumbag husbands. She just fell a few notches down in my eyes today.
