Bittuji's greatest mass-popularity and role-cruciality was when he idolized RK, and when his regard for Madhu was shown clearly increasing through her devotion to RK - a regressive facet which generally works excellently in bolstering the mass-popularity of the supporting-character and of the female-lead, so long as the male-lead's mass-support (offline massive viewership's tastes and sensibilities consistent) is excellent as RK's was.
Bittuji's characterization was more effective and directly ruthless than RK, before being butchered to allow unnecessary extraneous situations to stretch out from mid-2013 onwards.
For RK to be shown helpless in front of the great villain or in need of rescue by his wife through the making of a backfiring film to destroy his career at his own expense, Bittuji needed to become an absolute idiot even more than RK to let all those situations and supposed solutions stretch out until track-crashing from not enough millions of viewers.
Fortunately for the failure of all those ploys by the CVs, Bittuji's mass-popularity - like Padmini's - was dependent on his not doing or permitting harm to the dignity of this serial's mass-popular male-lead. Bittuji as a character was backfiringly scuppered when he was shown not even realizing RK's suffering during the bizarrely convenient paralysis duration (enough to keep a film going at his expense without him in it), but was shown mouthing sympathy-gambit dialogues about what Madhu had suffered and endured for RK (the film which almost destroyed RK's career with his money, until the CVs erased the film's great effect to keep the series existent and have a chance for a next track). That sort of sympathy-gambits of denigrating the male-lead to try to get mass-sympathy for another character had terminated Padmini almost entirely, Bittuji fared somewhat better in role-duration though not in role's mass-popularity. The role eventually became a prop as vamp's big-talking ineffective husband and one of several supporting characters (vanishable for weeks at a stretch), rather than the indispensable supporting character he was so long as he mainly prioritized RK.
An inability to be mindful of the mass-popular male-lead's dignity (crucial to avoid repulsing the mostly conservative majority-audience) is generally a good way to erode a supporting-character's mass-popularity - quite unfair since supporting-characters demeaning the female-lead are watched without any qualms and manifest in uneroded massive viewership.
