Technical Tuesday | Dutch Angle
Of course we had not forgotten today is tuesday. We put up the earlier behind the scene segment as that was the post for yesterday, however internet issues had put paid to our plans. So, we gave you that post anyway.
Now, comes the Technical Tuesday post. What is Dutch Angle? It is also known as Dutch tilt, canted angle, oblique angle or German angle. Are you guys wondering if the angle is called Dutch why is it also called German? The answer is simple. It was first used in a German film in 1919 and German is "Deutsche" so, of course, for us it has now become Dutch.
A Dutch angle is a camera shot in which the camera has been rotated relative to the horizon or vertical lines in the shot. The primary use of such angles is to cause a sense of unease or disorientation for the viewer. Many Dutch angles are static shots, but in a moving Dutch angle shot the camera can pivot, pan or track along the established diagonal axis for the shot. (This we sourced from wiki). How cool are we to give you such info, aren't we?
Well, this clip illustrates the angle and do you see something? Of course, there is drama galore happening in Qubool Hai and we give you a glimpse of it. Tell us what you think.
