75 yrs back...
India has won a grand total of 8 Olympic gold medals in hockey – in no other sport has India won even an Olympic silver medal, let alone the gold. India holds the records for the largest victory margin in an Olympic final (India 8 - Germany 1 in the 1936 Olympic final), the largest victory margin in a pool match (India 24 - USA 1 in the 1932 Olympics), and the largest number of consecutive victories (30 wins on the trot from 1928 to 1960).

wow........those glorious years!! 😊 do we hear these things these days???? no........we dont....that my friends is the bitter truth which the Indian Hockey Team is facing.....be it Men's hockey or Women's hockey.....! I honestly agree that even I don't know a thing abt hockey......that is because I am never used to watching Hockey in Sports Channels.....! ...but believe me....I am trying to find stuff abt it!😳

the present....
New Delhi: The Indian hockey team returned on Tuesday after their dismal performance at the World Cup at Monchengladbach in Germany.

The team finished 11th after beating South Africa 1-0 in the last game. Nothing seems to be going right for the Indian team who have now dropped to the seventh place overall in team rankings.

My debate question is.......who should be blamed for India's National game Hockey's downfall??
Should it be the media ppl who exaggerate the controversies abt handsome players in cricket or should it be the government who don't encourage Hockey and publicize it.....and don't provide enough funds to support this game?

something interesting for u guys.....the facts and stuff are too long....couldn't just blindly copy paste it! 😃

Actually the administrators of the game should be blamed

Key battle they lost was the conversion to Astro turf and since that point India has lost the charm of Hockey

Cricket gained popularity exactly at the same point when we won the WC

Now Hockey I guess ranks along with the Kabaddi's/Badminton as the also played sports of the country

My views.....I think the goverment is responsible for this downfall of hockey.....they haven't funded enough for this National Glorious Sport...They haven't honoured Legendary players like Dhyan Chand....

[[[ His final years were unhappy. Ignored by the Indian Hockey Federation and mostly forgotten by the nation, he was a bitter man. On December 3, 1979, he passed into the ages. A year later, the government issued a postage stamp in his honour. https://www.rediff.com/sports/2003/aug/28spec6.htm ]]]]

Is issuing stamps enough to honour this legendary player???? 😡

even we ppl are kinda responsible for this cuz we didn't show n e interest in this game....cuz these hockey players are not glamourous and handsome and cute!!! 😳

we want guys like Dhoni and Yuvraj....whom we can idolize and dream abt maryying to na!! 😆

I think...the formula to this heart-breaking thing is.....

Lack of Support by Gov + Lack of Interest in this sport + Lack of Media Support = the downfall of hockey!

This hockey thing came in my mind because of the release of Chak De India! Kudos to these guys for making such a fantastic film on Hockey!! Although the film is not yet released......am damn sure we guys will love it! hain na? 😃

Note: I posted this after reading the Terms and Conditions for this forum....posting our views too! 😃

you said the administrators should be blamed.....but the administrators are interested in money.....they know that we guys are not interested in Hockey......they wont fund Hockey cuz of this reason.....I don't blame them because this is the common human mentality......we think of profit profit profit!! 😃
