Some good things about EHT ending

Agree with most forum members that the final episodes were rushed. Atleast 1 month more would have given the show a better ending. I am not sure whether there would be a season 2 or not as there were many open ends. But I would like to put couple of things which the CVs showed that has made me happy as a viewer. Yes it is always fine to point fingers at what all went wrong, but it is also good to look at what all went right. There were quite a few things that went right with the ending

1) Payal facing Shaurya alone. I would say this was the highpoint CVs showed. The girl who screamed even hearing Shaurya's whistle stood with him alone for sometime. Not only she bravely put the abhla nari act to extract confession from him, but once done she slapped him hard, pushed him with all the might and beat him. Yes she did it in a protective environment , but she did it. Rape victim facing her rapist boldly was outright a different thing in Indian TV. Payal stood up for herself, for her self respect. They also showed how emotional support to a rape victim can make her more confident. Payal who decided to take on Shaurya was not alone. It was not just Nithya or Durga who was supporting her, she had been accepted by Dev, Suchitra, Kangana, Aakash and even Rishi apologized to her. There were more people telling her what happened to her was not her fault. It shows how important it is to emphatize with the rape victim and support her than blame her. If people would have been as supportive of Payal in the beginning she wouldn't have been forced to change her testimony.

2) They didn't show vigilant justice. How much ever botched up Shaurya was pronounced guilty of rape in court. Payal's honour was restored in court. Payal once again stood in that witness box asking for justice. She looked straight at Shaurya without a trace of fear.

3) Showing us a mirror of society. Even while getting punishment for rape Shaurya had no remorse. He was still standing as if he had the right to rape Payal as she was driver's daughter. And even while Durga was telling when rape happens people should not put blame on a woman, Sakshi was still thinking ways of protecting her son and I guess her insanity act points to that. Unfortunately we have more woman like Sakshi in our society who still thinks rape happens because the woman is at fault. That's why even in our forum we had seen people rooting for Durga- Shaurya marriage, Durga reforming Shaurya or Payal reforming Shaurya as they still think rape is just a mistake. If the woman cannot wake up even after listening to what Durga told about the way rape victim is dealt I want to tell them they are a blot for the entire woman hood. They are the ones who are encouraging crimes like rape by supporting patriarchy in the indirect way. They are the ones who are harming the future of younger generations by not allowing their daughter, sisters, DILs to have voice. They are the real cause why woman are still in pathetic state.

4) Last but not least Dev-Durga scene. Yes it was short. I would have loved it to linger a bit more but then they showed Durga going to Dev on her terms. Dev had married Durga, not Nithya. Yes Nithya was in front of him as per the deal, but Nithya didn't want to do anything with a married man. If he was calling her Nithya she will remain his friend , the way she was. She has not been given values to wreck another woman's home. In other words if Dev wanted his love , he has to take her as Durga only, the woman he wedded in front of the society.

Brilliant points Shruthi. I'd like to look at what went well too.
By conquering her fears ( very realistic ones) ,coming face to face with Shaurya, slapping , hitting him and pushing him away, and standing up to him to testify in court, Payal achieved closure. She can now move on from this experience . And it showed in the last scene where we saw a relaxed Payal being a young girl and enjoying the banter in the company of her loved ones( as she should be!)

The support, care and understanding shown by those around her has certainly helped. We know that a strong therapeutic relationship with your therapist /doctor is a major contributor to the improvement in psychological therapies. Payal's doctor helped her a lot in this too.I am pleased that she had a male doctor who nursed her back to health. I am also pleased that Payal had the experience of recognising that not all men are evil or rapists like Shaurya, Karun and Tarun and that there are many good men out there like her doctor, Dr Dayal, Dev, Akash and Rishi. I am pleased that the CVs balanced the portrayal of evil men with the good men.

I agree with you about vigilante justice. The ultimate power to try and sentence a criminal should always rest with the court. The media and protest groups can help get the case to court , but justice needs to be delivered in the court. Thankfully, the CVs did not show the mob beating up the evil trio and instead left it to the judge.

Most importantly, I think the CVs have listened to the viewers. I noted that they have incorporated quite a few ideas from the posts in the forum- especially the wish list- eg., Sakshi going mental and the suggestion of a mental health assessment, the girl spitting on Shaurya's face , Rishi being sentenced but for a shorter time , etc.,

Yes there were bloopers and poor writing in some places. But overall, the EHT team did a good job of focussing on the theme of rape, its consequences to the victims and her family, and the obstacles in achieving support and justice for victims of rape.It held a mirror to our society and our collective tendency to distance ourselves from these issues especially if it involves powerful members like the Goenkas and the Basus.

I am glad I watched this show. I was not expecting perfection in its delivery and I am happy that some key messages were sent out despite the rushed ending. That EHT has taken the initiative by focusing on rape which is a step in the right direction.I hope this will be a turning point for Indian TV.

Well I did point some good things in my post despite being absolutely let down by the end.
Good things were:

Payal facing Shaurya

Durga's statement on how rape victims are treated during investigation and trial. The dialogue that Payal was a rape survivor and not a rape victim was solid.

Payal speaking up with courage in court. Good contrast to her timid behaviour earlier. I am glad she has no emotional baggage now and truly overcame the trauma.

Court apologising for systemic failure, corruption and wrong decision in past

Rishi also being punished for misleading court and not being hooked up with Payal and just let off easily

No vigilante justice. Good that they took media, public and went to court. But frankly speaking this is not how court proceedings go on and showing the court so foolishly is an insult to the court and also misleads those who have less awareness on how courts function.

Girl who spat at Shaurya also pointed him out for not being loyal to even his own mother who kept protecting him. Another woman said, Shaurya would still be a monster if he was not a Goenka. That was a saving grace to an otherwise biased dealing.

They took Basu, Karan, Rajnath in police custody.

Atleast Mathur coming to testify against Goenkas. Though I expected all jilted accomplices to speak out.

They not only took Rajnath for murder of Arnab but also remembered the murder of lawyer Agnihotri by him.

Thank God for small mercies.

But that does not discount the HUGE loopholes and blunders they made. Sorry but the list of unanswered questions in this show is longer than its accomplishments. It had lot of promise but basically did not live up to it.

The good things for me were:
1) Payal facing Shaurya alone. Then slapping him and beating him. The scene was the best scene so far.

2) Public cursing Shaurya and hats off to the girl who spitted on his face. Every girl should do such kind of things to such kind of monsters like Shaurya.

3) Sakshi never ever cared about family, love and care except Shaurya. For her, Shaurya is her only world. And that Shaurya showed her the way to mental hospital.

4) Durga surviving and Dev getting his love back. The guy was not smart but innocent and clear heart ed.

yaa one more thing. They didn't show any amnesia for Durga so that she forgets what all she has done as Durga. By showing Durga has no remorse on what all she has done and making Dev accept her as Durga they did show Durga's fight for justice was not wrong

The ending was rushed and they had kept it open too in the hope may be they might get another season .

i guess this court case should have atleast be given a week and one court can't take up so many cases. There should have been a separate trial for all of them but since they hardly had any time left they just merged everything in one but there were some good things also.

1) Payal finally getting the courage to confront shaurya &look him in the eye in the court saying he has wronged me and i deserve justice was a good one. her slapping him earlier though would always remain my fav. her dialogue kind of sums up the pain of every rape victim who is fighting for years---" it took the strength of a entire lifetime for me to come here & ask for justice again"

this was so true not only for payal but also for many women who are still fighting their cases . the love and affection shown by durga - dayal for payal has helped her in crossing this bridge.

2) durga's monologue had the best dialogues. the rape survivor instead of rape victim was bang on 👍🏼 she summed up the reality of our society .

3) Shaurya's behaviour clearly tells u that ppl with power and money think they can get away with anything. Right to the last moment he was confident he would be free and is above law which holds true in our country .

4) though i hate shaurya but he was right if sakshi would have slapped him on his first mistake he wouldn't have gone too far . As a mother it was her duty to teach him to respect women and not treat them as commodity and objects. same goes for rajnath also , he too should have been blamed and shaurya should have shouted at him too.

5 ) sakshi loosing her sanity after shaurya turned on her shows despite everything she has done she couldn't get the love and respect from him. he used her for his selfish reasons.

6) Public anger and humilation of shaurya was good.he deserved every bit of it.

7) lastly i am glad they didn't forget mathur , basu , mukherjee & made sure everyone gulity was punished even though it was too fast paced.
