"At the end of the day it's about how much you can bear, how much you can endure. Being together, we harm nobody; being apart, we extinguish ourselves."

No, he couldn't. He couldn't just take it anymore. The excruciating pain that tugged his heart when he saw her in tears seemed endless. He knew she was deeply hurt.
But then, what else could he do? She was the one who had sought for such consequences. She had broken up with him saying that things wouldn't work out for them. "We can't be together Manik," she had said, just like that. What the hug and the kiss meant, he did not know. Perhaps her way of saying goodbye. An alvida forever. His hopes were all washed down the drain, the moment she had said that. How much he had longed to get back together with her, to spend time with her, the only time he felt at peace and happy. He always felt he belonged to her and the contentment, that smile and chirpiness of hers brought to him was beyond words could explain. And now, he couldn't wish for anything of that. It was all over.
Doesn't she feel anything for me, he thought to himself, seeing her in tears. He did not want to hurt her but then the sight of her laughing over a stupid joke cracked by her new found friend, Abhimanyu or whoever he was, had just been enough to ignite the dormant fury within him. She was enjoying herself when he was in agony all because of her.
Deep down, he knew that Nandini still loved him. But, he couldn't understand why she wanted things to end between them. He was hurt and he wanted to make sure that she was also equally hurt. He had walked to her after Abhi had left for which she had stepped back, her smile fading.
"So, Nandini Murthy enjoying yourself ha?" he had asked, raising his eyebrows.
"I need to go Manik, so leave me," she had said, trying to escape the conversation.
But Manik knew better. "I thought you broke up with me just few days ago and you already found a new boyfriend. Wonderful. Make sure that your relationship with him lasts longer" he had told her, without breaking eye contact.
That was all he needed to make her eyes well with tears. She was aching a lot but he couldn't help it. He didn't know why he was doing it but the fact that she felt offended when he paired her up with Abhi made him feel at ease a bit. Nevertheless, he too was going through the same pain she was going through.
She was trying not to cry out loud by pursing her lips. Manik felt that she was about to say something but then she gave up. She then clutched her bag tightly and ran away down the long corridor, away from him, the monstrous Manik. Yes, he was back, his old self, the monster.
And it was love that made him don his Monster manik avatar again, the same love which had reformed him from a demon to a hopeful being. His love for Nandini Murthy. What do you do when the one person you want comfort from the most is the one who caused your pain?
She still loves me, yes she does, he said to himself as he went into the practice room, wiping a lone tear that streamed down his cheek. Love hurts.
"I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love."
