All 3 main antagonists have been brilliant and literally the USP of this show.
In fact when you Google "Ek Hasina Thi" it is pics of Simone and Vatsal as Sakshi and Shaurya Goenka that come up first.
Their one liners, music, style are all famous and acting acclaimed, invariably they are the most discussed characters and actors of the show.
Just as movies like Kaalicharan, Mother India, Khalnayak, Darr, Agnisakshi, Aitraaz, Gupt etc are remembered most for their villains similarly Ek Hasina Thi, IMO is memorable for its villains who are uniquely written and layered characters, intensely vile and brilliantly enacted by actors.
Simone as Sakshi Goenka:
She was the first EHT character to have a parody dedicated to her on Twitter. Her dialogues, her style of speaking those dialogues, her dresses, hair styles, jewellery etc, each aspect is famous. Stores are selling Sakshi Goenka jewellery in real life and online. The tunes of her piano and background music are also popular downloads online. She is the only senior actress, who has fan clubs despite playing a negative role.
She was the first one who won an acting award for EHT in award season and the one with most awards of the cast (as actress).
People are so obsessed that most blame her only even if crimes are committed by her son or hubby.
Vatsal as Shaurya Goenka:
Most pics of EHT on Google search are his! His whistle, his mobile ring tone, his background music, his style of keeping mobile on shoulder have all become popular. They are available for downloads online. Not uploaded by channel but by fans themselves.
His parody is also popular on Twitter. He has lot of FCs dedicated to him. Many wanted him to be innocent or reformed. Some wanted him to be bad boy only. Some were amused by him. Many hated him. Though he is rapist in show, many like his chemistry with Sanjeeda (I am not into jodi stuff but notice enough DurSha shippers till date).
Many still don't have heart to blame him for what he is and would rather blame his parents instead.
** Both Simone and Vatsal have never played villains earlier. They were popular for nice characters like Heena and Jai of Just Mohabbat. Yet they nailed their characters so perfectly that people see only malice in them now. It's commendable to leave a mark in one's first attempt as it is not easy to play villain at all. Especially as extreme as Goenka duo.**
Ayub as Rajnath Goenka:
He has been famous for negative roles be it in DCH or Mrityudand. Only recently his image was cleaned up due to kind character of Uttaran. He managed to make Rajnath such a fox that often audience thought he was not this bad, or even pitied him. Ayub I guess got most response for this character than any other he has played before. Barrage of tweets daily. And even a new FC dedicated to him.
Rajnath is a sly guy and Ayub managed to make Rajnath such that despite the character's crimes it still gets sympathy. Raj and Raima must be the first senior as well as illicit couple who got their own set of shippers.
All 3 of them are talking points of the show. Most debated and ones who draw most response. Amusement, shock, disgust, some admiration, sometimes sympathy. There are few who still want them to be spared and win! As they cannot handle them being defeated. It is amusing to see such love hate response for them. They did an extremely commendable job in their roles and also managed to humanise them with their quirks and certain moments of sorrow. Not caricature villains by any means. Each has his own past and shades. Actually rather close to some real life high profile people who hide darkness behind a shiny public persona.
Other villains like Karan and Mandal, especially, have been amusing too despite being vile, given how equally stupid they were and how they thought of themselves as better than what they were. Their fumbling in fear inspired memes of their own.
Vicky Arora, the guy who plays Karan was sporting enough to share each meme on his FB page. Vatsal also shared some memes including from our forum.
Kishwer as Raima must be the first ever accomplice in crimes who got this much sympathy!
The response has been unprecedented. All thanks to writing, casting and designing. The actors did a great job.
Regardless of TRPs and show's 8 month brief run, these guys have made impact and I feel the image of Goenkas, Raima, Karan is going to stick with them for long. The actors will be associated with this serial only, atleast for considerable time. They made this show really unique and stand out from the usual pack. It's going to be tough to shake off this image. It is also tougher to again get roles that elicit such intense and varied response (which is dream of every actor and writer for their characters).
Playing villain convincingly is one of the most difficult things to do, especially for actors who do not have conventional harsh looks to play villain and rather have nice/normal faces. Playing villain is also hallmark of versatility. By making viciousness of Goenka clan come across so well despite their looks and by making Goenkas iconic after giving iconic characters like Heena, Jai, Jogi Thakur, they have proven their versatility as performers.
Here, more than heroine's win, people are rooting for villains' loss. You know you've nailed your role when its fate is most eagerly awaited as well as eagerly debated by public.
EHT will be remembered for the best villains in one show on Indian TV. Hard to have so many good villains in one show and such different hues of wrong side in same show. Applause to team despite a rushed end and several bloopers. I would have liked power or defeat both shown in convincing ways than by just bloopers. But actors did their best with whatever they were given.
