One-film-old Kriti Sanon says she entered Bollywood with a back-up plan; talks about life post her successful debut

How has life been since your debut?
Pretty good. Everything depends on your first film, more or less, so it worked wonders for Tiger and me. The response surpassed our expectations.
Was not belonging to a film family a hindrance?
Before the trailers were out, people knew only Tiger. If you come from a film background, people relate to you because they know about your family. As on outsider, it took people time to connect with me.
From an outsider's point of view, Bollywood seems like a big, bad industry. Did you ever face an uncomfortable situation?
No, luckily I haven't. As a model, I was with an agency, so I never had to approach people with my portfolio. As for the casting couch, I think you fall for them only if you're desperate. Having an engineering background to fall back on, I wasn't desperate to get a film.
Were your parents apprehensive about your career choice?
Yes, they were, because it's not a secure career. My parents had a condition before I started acting. They wanted me to give my GMAT exam. It was like an assurance that if films didn't work out, I would have something to fall back on. I gave the exam while shooting for my Telugu film, and I got a decent score. Although I did it only for their mental satisfaction, I know they'd never stop me from doing what I want.
Sidharth Malhotra once said that being an outsider, he found attending film parties very odd.
Have you felt the same?
I haven't attended any of them. I don't really know people in the industry.
Has popularity changed you?
Not yet; and I don't want it to. My middle-class values are important to me. I have my parents, friends, and people around me who I know will hush me down if I start behaving like a star.
You've signed a film with Akshay. Have you interacted with him so far?
We haven't started shooting yet, but I've met him a few times. I'm sure I'll have a lot to learn from him.
Are you nervous about sharing screen space with a senior actor?
When I was working with Tiger, we were both learning. But I was also working with Mahesh Babu, who's a superstar. I've experienced working with a superstar. I guess it shouldn't be that difficult. I'm sure he will help me.
How about Shahid, who you've signed another film with?
