The Unorthodox Proposal
"Finally, campus recruitments are here! I can't wait to get out of FITE." , Vidushi screamed with joy as she ran into the canteen holding the circular in her hand. " I don't have to see you , you and your face ever again(point at Yoyo,Jiggy who had a samosa in his mouth and Sanyukta respectively).Oh My God Yes!" , throwing her hands up in the air and jumping back out of the canteen expressing her joy to any random person who came in her way. Vidushi's antics left everyone with a sense of excitement for the first time except for Randhir and Sanyukta who just glared at each other in silence.
Later that evening,
Sanyukta and Randhir took their usual evening walk together in the campus but this time it was quiet. Both knew what was bothering the other. Multiple pessimistic thoughts flooded their heads regarding the campus recruitments. What if we get placed in different cities? , Sanyukta thought biting her nails. No , no way , there is absolutely no way I can live without her, replying to a similar question his brain asked him. He quickly squeezed Sanyukta's hand taking her by surprise. Even the thought of her leaving him scared him. He couldn't imagine the day he would stop loving her. They still kept walking silently into the night.
Sanyukta finally broke the ice," Randhir , What if we...". Randhir quickly placed his palms on her mouth and pulled her close with his hand behind her back, "SSSHHH.. Just shut up ! You are not leaving me and I am not leaving you.You get that you silly girl? " . Sanyukta saw his wet eyes and hers weren't clearly invisible either. She without wasting a second threw her arms around him over his shoulder.He lifted her off her feet and spun her around.
That night they decided that there was no way in hell they were living apart.They both decided to interview for the same company in Mumbai and bag the very same job. Estelle Industries was an esteemed company in Mumbai which came to FITE only to recruit one or two exceptional students. For most students this company was out of their league.But Randhir and Sanyukta , keeping in mind their capabilities were determined to make it big there.
Interview Day,
Sanyukta walked into Randhir's dorm room and watched him admiringly wrestle with his tie. She snatched the tie from his hands and helped him with it. "All the best ! I know you'll do great." , with her hands around his shoulder. " You'll do too." , as he leaned in forward to peck her forehead tightly. In their heads they knew how crucial the situation was for them right now and how important the job was.Both tried to remain calm but the pressure did seem to fire up within one of them.
Later that day,
Everyone was celebrating as they got the job they desired.The canteen was jammed. Pizzas and drinks were being passed. But no one was as elated as Vidushi. She stood up the table dancing like a maniac. She was soon interrupted by Parth who got her down in his arms. As Sanyukta made her way through the crowd she spotted Parth. "Parth ! Have you seen Randhir? Where is he ?" , she screamed her lungs out trying to overpower the loud music. " I don't know Sanyukta.I think he is in his room. I am sorry , I would have helped you. But first I need to take care of this drunk girl.", he responded.
It was around 9 pm when Sanyukta ran into Randhir's hostel room again.The condition of the room was terrifying. The room was vandalized and destructed to no end. Her heart palpitated faster and harder. She was scared now. And there she spotted him trying to get another piece of furniture into several other pieces.
"Randhir !!!!" , she screamed and ran to him hugging him from behind.
He was shirtless and sweating after all the vandalism.
" I didn't get it. I didn't get it Sanyukta" , he choked.
" I DIDN'T GET THE JOB!!!!" , he yelled now kicking the cupboard in frustration.
"SShhh ! Calm down. It's okay ! It's okay." , she cried.
She turned him around to face her. And after a little thinking she spoke softly , " I didn't get the job either. It's okay, we will find another way.", she wiped his tears.
"But how is this possible Sanyukta. We needed this.What are we going to do?" , he hugged her tightly.
She hugged him back," We'll figure out something else.We always do.I love you."
He broke the hug and cupped her face," I love you so much ! " and conquered her lips with so much intensity and love.And she didn't resist either.
After a while they were both on Randhir's bed with Randhir lying down and resting his head on Sanyukta's lap. "Are you okay now ? " she said patting his head lightly. " I wonder how they didn't select at least one of us.It's weird , isn't it ? There is always one FITE student every year who makes it there." , Randhir seeming a little puzzled. "Well they don't know what they are missing out on." , she laughed trying to cheer him up.
A few days later,
Randhir and Sanyukta had the lab to themselves. Working on machines together late in the night was nothing less than an ideal date for them. Randhir had finally accepted Sanyukta advice of getting through this some other way. He was slightly relaxed now. Sanyukta's funny antics constantly kept a smile plastered on his face. She playfully stained his shirt with her greasy hands and things seemed to get back to normal.
After a while , Sanyukta's phone buzzed. "Randhir please ? If you don't mind." , she gestured him to get her phone from her bag as her hands were greased. He faked an annoyed face and proceeded towards her bag.As he searched through her bag he came across an envelope with the name Estelle Industries printed on it.His heart suddenly stopped seeing that name. With his back facing her he tried to hide what he was about to do.He opened the envelope only to find an acceptance letter in the name of Sanyukta Agarwal asking her to duly fill the formalities before the commencement of her job at Estelle Industries. His eyes welled up reading it.He didn't know how to react.
Sanyukta realizing how incredibly long he was taking just to get her phone followed him and tapped his shoulder. When he turned around with tears trailing down his face and the letter in his hand she shut her eyes hoping this was all just a dream.
Randhir threw the letter on the floor harshly and was about to leave giving her a disgusted expression when she held his hand, " I only lied because I wanted to stay with you." , she firmly said.
"No. You lied because you pitied me.You didn't want to rub it on my face and show me that you were better than me." , he retorted. " But guess what? It feels exactly like that.", he yelled.
"I did this for you Randhir. I don't want to leave you.Why is it so difficult for you to understand.I know you would have done the same if you were in my place. And now we can finally be together." , she screamed crying and shook him by his shoulder trying to get him to understand the point.
"Well that's not happening. Because we are officially over(pushing her away). You lied to me when I trusted you the most. You are better than me Sanyukta, I get it. You should go take the job.Live your life. You always wanted to prove you were the best , better than me since Day 1, right? Here is your chance. You don't have to pity me. Who am I? Engineering was always your priority. What did you get by lying to me? You know you will never get to fulfill your dreams if you are with me.And then you will blame me for the rest of your life."
"JUST SHUT UP RANDHIR !! JUST SHUT UP ! I can't take it anymore. I don't get it . I don't understand this behavior. You are supposed to be happy that I chose you.I want you. I didn't mean to prove anything.I don't know what you are even saying. " , she went to kiss him.
"No you shut up ! Take your stupid job and leave . I never want to see you ever again. I hate you.I just hate you Sanyukta Agarwal.You are like my mother.You'll stay with me now but leave me when you are dissatisfied with your life with me.JUST GO NOW!" , he cried.
"Randhir you are making me wonder if you are mad about me lying to you or about the fact that I got the job and you didn't.Goodbye." , she wiped her tears and walked away.She couldn't take his harsh words anymore for something she did for the right reasons.
He just stood there.He loved her! Of course he did.Why did he react this way ? What was he mad about? He didn't know himself. But his ego didn't let him stop her from leaving either.
It had been 3 months since Sanyukta left Roorkie to pursue her career in Mumbai.She wasn't happy there either.But she stuck around there because she knew she was right this time and nothing was holding her back.Because the person holding her back didn't want her anymore. She missed him incredibly.She loved him and always will. Her plan of having a perfect career and having Randhir by her side had failed miserably. She did want to marry him someday.She was a girl after all.She had thought was discussing it with him once would move to Mumbai. She had planned a complete future with him and he had ripped it apart in seconds. She would still leave everything for him in a heartbeat but she had to stay strong.
Meanwhile Randhir wasn't at his best either. He wanted her back desperately. He couldn't live without her. But he didn't know how to face her. She completed him and he understood the fact that she had some goals set for herself and he knew that when he fell in love with her. Why was he behaving like this?That day Randhir realized he wanted Sanyukta more than ever and forever in his life.
Mumbai,
Sanyukta returned to her PG after a tiring day.It was late and she dozed off the moment she fell on her bed.Next day when she woke up she had a tiny smile on her face.She had felt someone's presence , someone kissing her goodnight in her sleep but shoved it away as a dream. At least in her dream Randhir was back, she thought and smiled. She realized it wasn't a dream when she noticed a velvet box on her bedside and a simple yet beautiful ring sitting majestically over it. There was a note beside it that read:
"YOU COULD HAVE YOUR JOB
OR
YOU COULD HAVE YOUR JOB AND ME.
SO WILL YOU MARRY ME ?
I'LL BE WAITING..."
The note was also accompanied by a ticket to board a flight to Delhi which left in 2 hours.
The moment she read that she cried , she smiled , she laughed ! She couldn't believe her eyes. She didn't care why they fought. It was forgotten. He was here . He was here to leave her that note, THAT RING. She rummaged through her cupboard,packed her bags and left for the airport where he would be waiting for her to slide the ring onto her finger himself.
That's how their love was . They didn't need a reason to love, to fight and to forgive. They were unpredictable. They were Randhir and Sanyukta.

So basically I wrote this story because I thought Sandhir relationship wasn't cheesy at all. It was different. So when Randhir would propose , it would be different.It would be epic. Which is why I wrote this .
