Telly stars Ram Kapoor and Prachi Desai will join Priyanka Chopra and Johnny Lever for the India Day parade in The Big Apple

Chalo Chalein: Ram Kapoor and Prachi Desai

Actress Priyanka Chopra will lead the parade as Grand Marshal and Johny Lever will be the chief guest for the 27th India Day parade in New York on August 19.

Soap queen Ekta Kapoor's Kasamh Se lead pair Ram Kapoor and Prachi Desai will join Chopra and Lever to celebrate the country's 60th Independence Day. The theme of the parade this year is Women's Shakti.

Prachi will be accompanied by her sister Esha, and Ram by his wife Gautami (Gadgil, Tulsi of Kyunki). The quartet will take the same flight on August 17. While Prachi and her sis will return in four days, Ram and Gautami plan to extend their stay by a couple of days.

Gung-ho

Earlier this year, Prachi had been to New York to receive an award from the Gujarati committee there. She is geared about her second trip too. "We are going to shop a lot. We will freak out and have a ball. I am honoured to be a part of this parade," Prachee says.

Ram is equally excited. Talking to HiTLIST, he says, "I had no idea about this parade. I told people who invited me that anything representing India is great but I need to talk to Ekta first. When I told Ekta, she was very excited and said that I must go."

Ram and Gautami are not taking their 13-month-old daughter Sia along. "Gautami needs to take a short break. She has been working very hard since the past few months," Ram says.

Ekta Kapoor and Jeetendra have walked this parade in the past. Other personalities who have participated in the past FIA parades include actresses Madhuri Dixit and Rekha, spiritual guru Morari Bapu, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former mayor Rudy Giuliani. Music composer A R Rahman was the Grand Marshal for the 2006 parade.
