He is a child. Children think and live in the moment. He has not fully understood the reason why his parents punished him by sending him to live with the old lady. Like a child of his age, he has typically concluded that his parents , especially his mother does not love him, hence he was punished. Moreover, if you recall, he only overheard the last part of Jodha and Jalal's conversation when Jodha tells the shehenshah that she agrees with his punishment for Salim. The Creatives conveniently forgot to make him hear Jodha explaining to Jalal that the punishment is too harsh for a child who unintentionally hurt the boy in the mango orchard, with his arrow. Salim's anger towards Jodha, stems from the fact that he truly believes that she did not stand up for him and did not prevent his father from punishing him. Salim loves his mother immensely, he feels let down by her, hence the anger. Rukaiyya is constantly adding fuel to the raging fire in Salim's mind with her negative feedback, this is only worsening his attitude towards Jalal and Jodha.

Let us hope that the Creatives play fair with Salim by putting an end to Rukaiyya's manipulations.
