By now we have all come to a realization, maybe some of us are more or less willing to admit about some single genre singers

A single genre singer generally sings the songs of their genre very good, but when they go out, they generally are so good, that they are noticed as being not as nice a singer

no I am not talking about Mauli, I am talking about Mussarat

he is excellent in Sufi, but when he goes into other genre he is not as good, if you compare his performance from yesterday and today, you will see the difference.

The difference for single genre singers is the same, Mauli has the same difference

not about Mauli or Mussarat, how do you decide?

A singer who is excellent, absolutely mind blowing in one genre, but not at all good in others, do you still vote for that singer?

Amanat is supposed to be versatile, look at all the songs he has performed, do you feel he is?

Raja? rewind all his performances

or do you vote for a singer who is versatile, sings all genre's moderately well and does not suck in any, once in a while sings one out of the park?

or do you vote for a singer who blows you away in his/her genre?

are you honest with the same opinion no matter who that person is?

I don't about contests and the mindset of SMSers but in the msuical
industry, you have to versatile simply because public tastes change every
couple of years and you have to be ready to adapt.

Great post Vineet and put very objectively... Yes, Mauli is a single genre singer and I dont like her a bit, but so are Musarrat and Raja... I am surprised that still we give a preferential treatment to these 2 as compared to Mauli...

There is another thing, I feel affects voting pattern.. if its a single genre singer and keeps repeating the same kind of songs week after week after week.. the audience may soon find it too repitative and would look for more fresh voice.. Agree this has not reflected with Raja thus far, but will soon happen! Musarrat will run into same issues if he listens too much into his guru on this topic!

I don't think audience cares much about versatility...

Nusrat FAK is an example. People who like him, keep on listening to him and will listen to him through out their life..

Its about taste..So if you like it then you like it... Versatility is an additional quality of a great singer. So one can be or can't be versatile but at the same time can be so good that you just can't get enough enough...

Excellent post Vinit so making it dotw now.

I agree and hav always maintained that Raja is a good singer but not versatile. U need to go thru all his past performances and it will be very clear. Mauli i would refarin from commenting.

Personally if i had voted would hav gone for a versatile one. Because finally that is a singer who will be able to adjust to every change of style of singing. But if we see it practically then the question that comes is - how many such songs are composed these days? it is mainly one genre songs style now a days being followed by all the MD's. the ones who can give us the soft melodies one are sitting idle mostly.

So getting another sufi singer as Musarrat would be an asset for the music industry which lack such a singer.Or someone like Sunidhi (dnt think i am talking about mauli 😆 ) will be surely welcome. Getting another Shreya and making her sit adle most of the time makes no sense to me. best example being Nihira.

I mean she made real bhurta of some Asha Tai songs..😆
