First things first... I was up until half one in the night reading hate me today so that I could remember the story and feel the emotions of the characters for an update. Omg it is intense. Gosh I have put you through a lot and I apologise that the story is unattended.
I was not able to sleep, took me half an hour to sort my emotions out. Hell I am still reeling from it.
Chapter 5
Sitting comfortably on the terrace, Sammy says, "maya and I met at university. We have been dating for nearly two years now."
Maya joins in and says, "we had agreed that we would focus on our careers and that we would marry after three years."
Pakhi interrupts rudely, "then why did you betray Sam and say yes to bhai?"
"Pakhi. Stop!" Kalpi snaps, turns towards Maya and apologises. Sulkily, Pakhi says, "you don't have to apologise for me. I can apologise for myself." She turns and glares at Maya, adding, "I don't think I have said anything I need to apologise for."
Sammy shakes his head, turns towards Maya and says, "I am sorry. My sister is just..." Maya smiles reassuringly and says, "relax I am not offended. I understand where she is coming from." Annoyed with the interruption, Ragav says, "can we get back on track please. You were saying..."
Maya continues, "three days ago your father came home and suggested a marriage alliance. Dad asked me. It is my fault here... I assumed that the groom was going to be Sam. So I agreed. When Sam did not mention anything when he called, I decided to play along and did not mention anything. It is only when we were on our way here, that daddy mentioned that I was going to get engaged to Ragav tonight at the party. I was surprised because I knew you were in a relationship and to top it off you are my boyfriend's brother."
Sammy takes over, looking at Ragav he says, "I had told her about you andkalpi. She panicked and asked me to meet her at the parking and she told me everything. I told her not to do or say anything until I get the opportunity to speak to you first. It was too late by then. I saw Kalpi and Pakhi head for the kitchen. Then you headed for the terrace and Kalpi and Pakhi followed. So I brought Maya over, so that we could explain."
"I don't understand something," Pakhi says in a confused voice. Everybody turns towards her. She continues, "mum and dad know there is something going on between bhai and Kalpi. Mum even teases bhai sometimes. So how can dad..."
Ragav interrupts Pakhi, saying, "don't think too much about it", not wanting them to think about the reason or voice it for it would reaffirm Kalpi's fears. "I can't have her give up on us... I just cant," Ragav thinks as he his gaze seeks Kalpi's... But she refuses to look at him, instead remembering what her mother always told her.
"But bhai," Pakhi replies, wanting to raise the issue. Kalpi gets up and steps away, thinking sadly, "I know the reason."
Seeing Kalpi overcome with sadness, Ragav gets up, looks at Pakhi and snaps, "enough." He walks towards to Kalpi, hugs her and says, "everything will work out." Wiping her tears, he adds, "please stop crying." "Ragav, your parents will never..." Kalpi says. "Shhh... They will. Trust me," Ragav interrupts.
His arm around Kalpi, Ragav looks towards the others, clearly reading the confusion in their expression, grimly he thinks, "they don't understand why." Sighing he says, "I think for now we should keep Sam and Maya's relationship to ourselves. When the time is right we shall disclose it to dad and mum."

Once the guests leave Neetu turns towards Sahil and yells angrily, "how could you? You did not have the audacity to inform me that you have already discussed a marriage alliance with the Kapoors... That you planned for OUR son to get engaged tonight."
Kamla and Kalpi were having a quiet conversation in the kitchen, where Kalpi is reassuring her mum that she is okay, when they hear Neetu yelling. They head out to the lounge.
Ragav, Pakhi and Sammy who were upstairs come rushing down when they hear their mother yell.
Sahil looks at her calmly and says, "you are right. I apologise. I should have informed you."
"Not informed me. Asked me! And not just me but asked our son too if he wanted to marry Maya," Neetu says angrily.
Sahil glares at her and says, "he will marry where I tell him. I will not discuss this."
"Dad, I will not marry her," ragav says calmly.
Pakhi walks up to her father and says, "daddy you know that Ragav loves Kalpi, then why..." In a fit of temper Sahil slaps Pakhi and says, "how dare you advocate a maids daughter." Wagging his finger at Ragav, he says fitfully, "I will not accept a maids daughter as a daughter in law. Do you understand?"
Shocked that her father raised his hand on her, Pakhi just stares at him in disbelief. Sammy hugs her and whispers, "brat, are you okay."
Ragav angry that his father slapped Pakhi and called Kalpi a maids daughter, says loudly, "you are angry with me. Don't take it out on Pakhi. I..." When Kalpi interrupts him, saying, "Ragav don't. Please stop." Ragav stops midsentence, knowing that Kalpi would not be happy if he spoke harshly to his father, he keeps quiet.
Sahil turns towards Kalpi and says, "who the hell do you think you are to interfere. You are the reason my son is talking back at me. We make you a part of this family and what do you do... You break this family. So much for charity."
"Sahil," Neetu says as Kamla maa gasps in shock. Unable to take it, that her daughter be insulted, says, "don't insult my daughter..."
"Insult her! Kamla I have spoken fact. You have trained your daughter to trap my son. I will not have it. Just because we treat you as family does not mean that you should dream beyond your status." Sahil says.
Vithal who had arrived late to the party, stands silently by the entrance, shocked to hear all this venom, unable to accept any more insult thrown towards his wife and daughter, yells, "stop! Enough. Just because you are rich does not mean you have the licence to insult my wife and daughter." "No," he says, wagging his finger at Sahil, "You hold on to this false pride of yours. And know this, my daughter will never be your daughter in law."

Two weeks later
Sahil looks at Neetu, thinking, "gosh, how long is she going to be angry with me." He says, "I was right. Ragav does not love Kalpi. He was just infatuated." Neetu looks at him for a moment, then goes back to ignoring him as she prepares for bed. Sighing, fed up of the silent treatment, Sahil says, "you need to stop sulking because you were wrong."
Neetu turns towards him sharply and says, "wrong. I was wrong."
Sahil says, "yes. You are wrong. Look at Ragav. Does he look sad from any angle? No. His life is the same. In fact he and Maya are getting along well. Today after the meeting they were laughing and talking away."
Snorting, Neetu thinks, "that's because you don't know that Maya is sam's girlfriend and that Ragav takes her as a sister in law." Shaking her head, she says, "whatever." Turns away from him and goes to sleep.

Ragav lay in bed experiencing a mixture of emotions... Confused for he does not know how to proceed. He is happy that Kalpi is able to handle the environment at her home. Sighing he thinks, "everything is at a stalemate. Looks like we shall have to wait it out until our fathers agree. Thank God our mothers are supportive." He frowns thinking, "Kalpi has not mentioned anything about Kamla maa. Is kamla maa on our side, like mum? I need to ask Kalpi." He chuckles and dismisses his worry, muttering, "nah! Kamla maa is on our side. She loves me and she definitely loves Kalpi. So definitely she will want our happiness."

Kalpi sat in the courtyard, staring into the sky, unable to sleep. Sighing she wonders what life has planned for her and Ragav. Shutting her eyes, she whispers a small prayer, "Bappa help us. I have not told Ragav how bad the situation is at home." Faltering she continues as tears fall, "That baba has decided I am not going for further studies... That baba is looking for a spouse for me... Oh Bappa, please help."
