Reading and writing are the basics of being a literate. That obviously makes you a literate,
However if she starts applying stupid ideas and notions as Maa ka gyan , can she be called a literate?
What is the purpose of education if it cannot make us use our common sense at all ?
What is the purpose of education if it cannot make us rational ?
What is the purpose of education if it cannot make us differentiate between Sharadha and Andhshraddha?
What I mean by literacy here is the basic knowledge about the world and practical approach in day to day activities. Daya lacks it severely and yet she is to be followed by the much more educated people of Gokuldham . Daya is the least educated here and it is a fact, isn't it ? Why others have to follow her and respect her as if she is some guru maa ?
Also, I have quoted the example of Baa from Baa Bahoo and Baby who was also some chauthi pass but she was a wise woman. I respect such characters. For Daya I cannot say the same thing. For me she is still an illiterate woman despite of her ability to read, write and count in Gujarati. Where graduates and Post graduates find it hard to make any mark, we have a woman with reading, writing and counting abilities doing unbelievable jobs. Literacy doesn't mean a degree or a certificate that can be used as wall decorations in our homes. It should shine bright against our character. It has to make its essence felt in our approach.
I never said all should speak in English, did I? As a matter of fact, I didn't make a single comment on the language. My problem is and always was with the content. Can we say she speaks sense all the time ? Don't know English, either learn it or don't speak it at all. Why not say Abhinandan or Mubarak ho instead of Kangarosason?
English is never a problem but wrong words and distorted pronunciation is definitely a problem.
Besides whatever the language is, the content matters and that is the question here.
