Hi guys!
Just last week I was saying how the Raj and Avni relationship had been fairly well done in the show and now this happens. I spoke too soon I think. Though I really shouldn't be surprised that Avni doesn't believe Raj, given her past record. Only this time, its gone too far.
Legally, I know there are all reasons to suspect Raj. But that's not the point. The point is that Avni, the one person who supposedly loves him the most, his wife, his soul-mate, believes that he can actually kill her brother. Relationships start with love but are built on trust. Though love doesn't automatically generate trust, Avni and Raj's relationship has gone far enough for this trust to develop. Sadly, even after all they have gone through, Avni has not developed this trust on Raj. Raj said so as much in today's episode where he admitted that he was more hurt by Avni's distrust than anything else. The look on his face when she didn't care was heartbreaking.
Yes, Raj's love has always been selfless. But he is also human. This incident will leave a huge mark on him. That's why when the truth comes out, I don't want Raj to forgive and forget easily. Avni needs to realise that this level of distrust will have consequences. She can't ride roughshod over Raj's feelings everytime and then be taken back lovingly into his life. You can tie back broken threads but knots remain. Avni needs to learn the value of trust and she needs to know the hard way. I am hoping this is shown and her development isn't glossed over. Spoilers show that they both will hate each other and all and I don't know how its going to go, but after the truth, Raj should not melt easily.
I'd like to make a reference to Gone With The Wind here, one of my favourite novels. Rhett Butler loved Scarlett unconditionally but she never understood it. When finally she realised and went to him, he said, "Scarlett, did it ever occur to you that even the most deathless love could wear out?" That is what I'm talking about. I do want Raj and Avni together, but not till Avni has fully realised the consequences of her actions and atoned for them.
