BO update: The Shaukeens takes the lead over Rang Rasiya

After last week's low key performers, this week we see the release of the Akshay Kumar - Lisa Haydon starrer THE SHAUKEENS along with the long overdue Randeep Hooda - Nandana Sen starrer RANG RASIYA. However, from the two, the first is a comedy that promises to perform better than the second which is loosely based on the book on iconic painter Raja Ravi Varma.

As expected, reports suggest that THE SHAUKEENS has taken the lead over the other release; however the film has opened on a very average note. On the other hand, RANG RASIYA that has been awaiting release for quite a few years has opened on a very low note. Simultaneously, the previously released multi-starrer HAPPY NEW YEAR continues to run, but at a very diminished rate.

Overall, while THE SHAUKEENS is expected to dominate this weekend, RANG RASIYA despite its good reviews will have to rely heavily on strong word of mouth to post decent collections. However, both films are expected to face stiff competition from the Hollywood release INTERSTELLAR that has been the highly awaited release of the year worldwide.
