Maybe I'm in a sadistic mood, or maybe it's because I'm watching the show properly after 7 days, but I did not hate Harshad. I facepalmed at Manik, cheered for Nandini, and bloody made Nyonika my Goddess.

Tamheed on one side, hey to all who missed me. Those who didn't, I don't blame you.

(oh wow, I've lost my touch)

Let's make it clear. I haven't seen the past 5 episodes but I've seen all the MaNan scenes (thanks Rafz, you're bloody awesome!!!) so I know what happened. What changed, the reactions, how the world turned upside down for them. And despite all that, I don't hate Manik. I don't blame Nandini. I don't bash Vikas. I don't call the show "boring" or "cliched". I don't say that KY2 is becoming typical. Nor will I ever say that MaNan lost their essence. Whatever happened, it was all meant to be. I wasn't all shocked and surprised about anything that happened. Yeah, in my head I had played out some different scenarios but what we got wasn't something which caught me off-guard ke oh shit, ye kya hogayi? But this is not the place for that. This is for today's episode.

Manik's disbelief at Nandini's belief on his act, that is so Manik. Ever since the start Manik has been a man of his own. Despite all the Fab5's plans together, Manik has been a bit of a one-man show. As it was said in the episode, "the heart of Fab5". He gives everyone the strength, he is the central piece for Fab5 to function like they do, but ultimately he's alone. His secrets have always been his. He has never talked about his full feelings with anyone. Not even Dhruv, his BROTHER LIKE BEST FRIEND (yeah, major emphasis on that). The most he talked to Dhruv about Nandini was post the store room scene.

"It was...eventful."

And that's it. The place, the eight hours, which started the whole change, he called them as 'eventful' and baat khatam. He is a master of words and disguises. He hides the full context and just sort of gives a glimpse of the real story. He was shocked that Nandini bought his act so easily. My question to him - why not, love? Why wouldn't she believe you? You took everything that she held precious, and you crushed it, spat on it, ridiculed it, and threw it back on her face. The saddest bit is that he doesn't even realize what he made her give up.

Her light.

The light which made her see the real him, the non-Monster Manik. Just the real Manik. The reason she saw him was because she had that light, that glow, which got attracted to the light locked within the darkness. The way the fireflies eradicate the deepest of darkness with their tiny glow. She was pulled to him the way the fireflies are pulled to the darkness. It's their nature to want to erase the darkness so that the cuckoo bird can find its way home (totally references Allama Iqbal's poetry here xD) In his own impulsive action, he made her lose all that. Now she's just Nandini. The girl who lost everything.

I know, so many want Nandini to connect the dots, to think about his behavior and realize what's not working. But I don't. What incentive does she have? Does she not know the darkness in him? She does. She knows it enough to believe that his light was just an act. The girl has lost all her light herself, how can she search for it in others? Manik can be all complaining and shocked that she left him like that but love, you pushed her away. Now his condition is all that he has no 'zor' on Nandini. He can't order her around or reel her in and make her stay. All he can do is steal moments with her to ease his own self..she won't come to him, he knows that. So he trips her to get close to her. It's stupid, it's selfish, it's downright dumb but it's so Manik.

Harshad said that Manik is no planner unlike him. He said it right. Manik doesn't plan. He does. On the spot, in a moment. He just does. Then he plays along with that. The need of the moment is to push her away, he breaks her. The need of the moment is that he needs her close, so he trips her to bring her close. It's not something that Manik just developed overnight. No. Manik hai hi aisa. He used a purely incidental act of her breaking a vase to make her his Spot to torture her. Then when he saw her with his brother and realized her issues, he freed her. Then when he saw that by doing so she's getting further away, he came up with the plan of working together just so he can be with her. Things happen, Manik reacts. This leads to more things happening, Manik reacts. He thinks that he's some big planner but he's not, he's just a pawn of the Incidents which are controlled by Fate. Even if he knows the things happening around him, he doesn't act to control it till it's the only thing left to do.

The difference here is that first, Manik used to do things which brought her closer to Nandini. Now he's doing it to push her away. This difference in the basic intentions of his actions is what's making Manik turn into an unfavorable guy for many. But the way I see it...Manik tou hai hi aisa. Uska core, basic nature..it hasn't changed. He's still the same guy we saw when we first officially saw him in the show. The one who calls his friends out of the blue that gather around, we have to practice. Still him.

Errr...this turned into a Manik dissection post 😆 Totally have no himat to write on the rest of the episode so abhi ke liye kaam chala lo. More discussion in the replies...I guess.

got the first spot and that too in one of the most coveted posts...that has rarely ever happened!😃
and no I'm not sorry Suha😛
Mais you write beautifully, i have always loved your posts and this one is also not an exception.😃😃

Coming to the show, I have always been expecting such a track to take place.Maybe, I hoped for it to take a different turn but being too used to Indian daily soaps and their common tropes over the years,I was resigned to it.
I knew Manik would take the sacrificing card, would hurt Nandini severely in the process and at the end of the day it will all come down to nought.I knew it and I accepted it but it wasn't easy to swallow anyway, because Ky2 has been a show which has used those same cliches and similar themes and twisted them to make something completely new and unprecedented.
Thus, I was disappointed maybe, at the handling of the track, at the execution of it all but as they say change comes over a period of time. One cannot simply overhaul all of the notions that have existed for years and bring something entirely different. At the end of the day, it is all a business and it wouldn't sell, as simple as that.

Moving on to today's episode, yes, I am not Angry at Harshad, this was expected from him but what I am left disappointed is at the execution of his character. He was supposed to be a grey shaded character also having some positive redeeming traits which have now been completely overlooked in favour of this one-dimensional out-and-out negative character from one of the regular daily soaps.Probably the only thing that surprised me today was Nyonika...but I guess from the show's perspective, it was meant to be more of a social commentary moulded into the storyline than the character behaviour itself.

Manik's disbelief over nandini believing his words are so ironic.Over the years, he has kept his emotions hidden away under a tough exterior and he has perfected that act of disemulation so much so that nobody questions him anymore. He seems perfect in his charade. He broke nandini's heart in the cruelest way possible, knowing and using all her weak points against her and he made it seem so convincing that she HAD to believe him.He hit exactly where he knew she would hurt the most and he still continues to do so.He is desperate for her attention so-much-so that he deliberately trips her but funnily enough, at the same breath, he continues to pour salt into her still very fresh wounds by his offhand taunts and remarks.
Manik Malhotra is stupid. He acts without thinking, without realizing the consequences of his actions He feels too deeply, acts too selflessly and speaks without thinking.Everything for him has been instinctive as you rightly pointed out.He is stupid and at the same time desperate enough to have some sort of a reaction from her and in order to do so, hurts her even more..Nandini has always been his saviour, his rock, his star, his guiding light and not having her close to him is slowly making him fall even more deeply in his self-dug pitfalls of hell. However, nandini can't save him this time.He doesn't realize that this time, he has gone too far, hurt her too deep, broken her trust and her faith in 'love' itself. She has let go of her deepest attachment, her aqnchor that helped her fight the darkness within her, her own light, her precious fireflies She is far too broken to mend herself just as yet let alone pick up the pieces of his broken self.

Mais, I have missed you. Yes you are right, you make absolutely sense. This is Manik, just like Merimazi said, Manik is being Manik, impulsive. He doesn't think, he reacts, only Nandini can calm him down and now that he has pushed his anchor away, Manik will just react. And this reaction will force him to bring Nandini closer to him again.
I don't blame Nandini either, this girl just gave up on her belief, her belief of fireflies, Manik forced it, crushed it and yet he can't believe Nandini did that. What did you expect Manik? Your impulsive nature is getting out of control, how can she believe you when you made her disbelief what her mom told her from childhood?

Manik should stop acting as if Nandini is a thing that he can use whichever way he likes or prefers
Now he's complaining that she believed him...how the hell wasn't she suppose to believe him 😡
And now that he wants her close again he comes with his cheap tricks...he's so hellbent on pushing her to Dhruv why doesn't he stay away from her...he so wants to sacrifice to keep his friend happy than keep your promise Mr. Mahaan Manik and keep your friend happy : Just stay the hell away from Nandini

Heyllo everyone,
I am new to this forum, as new as did not know KY2 existed until2 days ago...and now I am HOOKED.
I have seen close to 40 episodes in 2 days...and trying to see more.
I LOVED your write up...this is so true of the Manik I have seen until now. for him it has always been "my way or the highway". he is lucky all his friends abide by him. he has always been dependent on Nandini for stabilizing him...dhruv, kabir...are the instances where we see that e turns to her for solace. but then the need of the hour came up with dhruv'sconfession. in his mind he is doing the right thing, but I just love how they are showing his human side. even though he has decided to move away from her...he cant see dhruv with nandini for a long time, when she is close he feels the need to be closer...
oh I love this scenarios which actually will make the love fonder...
enough said in my first post...but just want to say you have a flair for writing...keep this. I am sure going to be looking forward to many more from u...
love -Ria

Maisuuu

Can I say how much I missed you and your posts, that bring a bit of rationality into us all.
I have been sitting so clouded by judgement and it was 13thwish's post that gave me the perspective and rationality, just like yours do.

I am glad you are back, not really going to analyse Manik right now. But agree with him impulsive nature and him not being able to stay away from Nandini😆😆😆
