Tamheed on one side, hey to all who missed me. Those who didn't, I don't blame you.
(oh wow, I've lost my touch)
Let's make it clear. I haven't seen the past 5 episodes but I've seen all the MaNan scenes (thanks Rafz, you're bloody awesome!!!) so I know what happened. What changed, the reactions, how the world turned upside down for them. And despite all that, I don't hate Manik. I don't blame Nandini. I don't bash Vikas. I don't call the show "boring" or "cliched". I don't say that KY2 is becoming typical. Nor will I ever say that MaNan lost their essence. Whatever happened, it was all meant to be. I wasn't all shocked and surprised about anything that happened. Yeah, in my head I had played out some different scenarios but what we got wasn't something which caught me off-guard ke oh shit, ye kya hogayi? But this is not the place for that. This is for today's episode.
Manik's disbelief at Nandini's belief on his act, that is so Manik. Ever since the start Manik has been a man of his own. Despite all the Fab5's plans together, Manik has been a bit of a one-man show. As it was said in the episode, "the heart of Fab5". He gives everyone the strength, he is the central piece for Fab5 to function like they do, but ultimately he's alone. His secrets have always been his. He has never talked about his full feelings with anyone. Not even Dhruv, his BROTHER LIKE BEST FRIEND (yeah, major emphasis on that). The most he talked to Dhruv about Nandini was post the store room scene.
"It was...eventful."
And that's it. The place, the eight hours, which started the whole change, he called them as 'eventful' and baat khatam. He is a master of words and disguises. He hides the full context and just sort of gives a glimpse of the real story. He was shocked that Nandini bought his act so easily. My question to him - why not, love? Why wouldn't she believe you? You took everything that she held precious, and you crushed it, spat on it, ridiculed it, and threw it back on her face. The saddest bit is that he doesn't even realize what he made her give up.
Her light.
The light which made her see the real him, the non-Monster Manik. Just the real Manik. The reason she saw him was because she had that light, that glow, which got attracted to the light locked within the darkness. The way the fireflies eradicate the deepest of darkness with their tiny glow. She was pulled to him the way the fireflies are pulled to the darkness. It's their nature to want to erase the darkness so that the cuckoo bird can find its way home (totally references Allama Iqbal's poetry here xD) In his own impulsive action, he made her lose all that. Now she's just Nandini. The girl who lost everything.
I know, so many want Nandini to connect the dots, to think about his behavior and realize what's not working. But I don't. What incentive does she have? Does she not know the darkness in him? She does. She knows it enough to believe that his light was just an act. The girl has lost all her light herself, how can she search for it in others? Manik can be all complaining and shocked that she left him like that but love, you pushed her away. Now his condition is all that he has no 'zor' on Nandini. He can't order her around or reel her in and make her stay. All he can do is steal moments with her to ease his own self..she won't come to him, he knows that. So he trips her to get close to her. It's stupid, it's selfish, it's downright dumb but it's so Manik.
Harshad said that Manik is no planner unlike him. He said it right. Manik doesn't plan. He does. On the spot, in a moment. He just does. Then he plays along with that. The need of the moment is to push her away, he breaks her. The need of the moment is that he needs her close, so he trips her to bring her close. It's not something that Manik just developed overnight. No. Manik hai hi aisa. He used a purely incidental act of her breaking a vase to make her his Spot to torture her. Then when he saw her with his brother and realized her issues, he freed her. Then when he saw that by doing so she's getting further away, he came up with the plan of working together just so he can be with her. Things happen, Manik reacts. This leads to more things happening, Manik reacts. He thinks that he's some big planner but he's not, he's just a pawn of the Incidents which are controlled by Fate. Even if he knows the things happening around him, he doesn't act to control it till it's the only thing left to do.
The difference here is that first, Manik used to do things which brought her closer to Nandini. Now he's doing it to push her away. This difference in the basic intentions of his actions is what's making Manik turn into an unfavorable guy for many. But the way I see it...Manik tou hai hi aisa. Uska core, basic nature..it hasn't changed. He's still the same guy we saw when we first officially saw him in the show. The one who calls his friends out of the blue that gather around, we have to practice. Still him.
Errr...this turned into a Manik dissection post 😆 Totally have no himat to write on the rest of the episode so abhi ke liye kaam chala lo. More discussion in the replies...I guess.
