It was a cold winter morning in Roorkee. The entire campus of FITE had turned utter chilly. He was working on a desk arranged with several motors in a corner of the magnificent campus. He was holding a cigar in his left hand and a register in the right hand. He scribbled something on the register with a pen. He kept it aside and started working on a random Brushless DC Motor; still smoking. He stopped in between to take a puff and his eyes caught at an alluring sight. Clad in a shade of peach and white coloured sari with her hair tied up in a ponytail which ended with a few curls, she entered the campus along with the rising sun. The sun started shining with complete splendor and the fresh warm rays of sun hit her beautifully sculpted face. She was busy checking something in her cell phone in one hand and was having her office-bag hanging in the other. He noticed some difference in her today. She was not her normal self. The woman who fakes anger, shouts without reasons and has some unknown enmity with him. She looked calm and serene today. Her eyes were still glued on her cell phone. He shrugged away her thoughts and started working on his motor. She was passing besides him when she inhaled some sort of smoke. She twitched her eyebrows and shifted a bit to search for the source of the smoke and found him working on some motors. He kept the motor aside and once again scribbled something on the register and now picked up a switched reluctance motor. She stood besides him and glanced at the motors. "Not bad Vardhan. You are done with 4 of them. By the way, from when are you working on them?", she asked turning towards him. "Just half en hour ago.", he replied back with a smile. "Really? That's impressive. Great speed.", she said returning a smile. "You should at least have that much speed if you are a professor.", he taunted her with a smirk plastered on his face. "Who gave you the permission to use these motors? Stop wasting the college funds for your personal experiments", she sounded absolutely irritated while making this statements. "For your kind information I have spent my income on these motors and I like to provide my students with the best quality machines" he said in a rather timid tone. She turned and was about to leave the place when he held her wrist. "What?", she asked with sheer annoyance. "I was kidding Maya. Don't get annoyed", he tried defending himself. "Vardhan I've some important work to do. Now please let me go. I'll talk to you later", she said. "Oh common Maya, I know now you will go and let out your anger on the poor peons and wardens. I was joking. Just forget it. And if you want to bash someone you can bark at me. You know, it won't matter much", he said. "Don't you have manners how to talk with a woman? Don't eat my head in the morning and spoil my day. And Vardhan, have you taken a pledge to argue with me everyday?" she asked him faking a smile. "Interesting, very interesting Maya, I thought you were the one who came here to talk with me", he replied back. "Oh. I'm sorry. I won't ever dare to talk with you. So have a good day and let me go", she retorted in a frustrated tone. "Where have I stopped you?" he asked innocently. "This..." she was about to point at her wrist but she saw that he had already left it. He chuckled looking at her frustrated expressions and this irritated her more. "You're foolish", he muttered softly, but audible enough for her to listen. She just left the place without any further quarrel. He looked at her face. She was sad. He felt bad for hurting her. But he knew she would get back to her normal self and fight with him for no reason again. He completed his work and moved for his lectures. Time passed very swiftly and the first half of the schedule was over. It was the time for break, when Vardhan finished his lectures and was moving towards his cabin. He was passing near Maya's cabin when he saw PKC entering her cabin with a bouquet of red roses. He thought that it might be from some of her relatives or colleague and so he ignored and started walking. He heard some gossips but they were not clear but he clearly heard the cheapest words from PKC's mouth. "I love you"
Damn. He felt like ripping him apart and strangling him to death. Yes, these are the most beautiful words in one's life. But this idiot fatso had forgotten his limits and proposed to Maya. She was to be his responsibility. He was about to give PKC a hearing when he heard Maya laughing. He felt as if a dagger passed through his heart. He never expected this from her. He didn't want to hear anything else and so he just moved to his cabin. He took the machine in which he had fixed the new motors he made at morning and started dismantling it. The lectures had started again but he didn't budge from his cabin. It was the time for the lecture period to end when a peon entered Maya's cabin and informed her that Vardhan didn't give a single lecture after the break. Maya was tensed and she herself went to check in his cabin regarding his whereabouts. She opened the door and the entire room was filled with smoke. She coughed as the smoke entered her nostrils. He heard her coughing and shouted, "Just leave". She was hell confused by his behavior. She ignored his anger and went near the window and opened it for the smoke to escape. He was fuming with anger due to her presence. She went near him and snatched the cigar from his hand and threw it from the window. He pulled her by her wrist and pushed her outside his cabin. "Don't even dare to enter this cabin", he shouted at her. She looked at him. His eyes were bloodshot red. They had few tears too. For an instance she was scared by his form but she composed herself and pushed him aside. She entered inside his cabin and said, "I'm the dean and I can move about anywhere in the college. You are no one to stop me." "Yeah, right. Who am I to say anything? Every damn right is with that fatso PKC, huh.", he yelled. She was more confused and she tried to clear her perplexity "PKC? From where did PKC come in this topic Vardhan? I'm here to..." "Just shut up and get lost. I'm not interested in talking with you", he cut her in between. "Just go and romance your fatso bf", she heard him mumble.
"What did you just say?", she asked him to ensure whether she had heard it right. He was about to close the door when she entered. He again held her arm to push her out but she jerked his hand prior to any of his actions. "What's the matter Vardhan? Why are you behaving so weird? Is there any problem?", she asked in a concerned tone. "You" he said pointing his finger at her. "You are the problem". "But what did I do?", she asked naively. "Oh. Look at your guts. You are asking me what you did? Don't try to act smart, ok" he said with disgust and turned away his face from her. She made him face her and asked him coldly, "Whatever you want to say just say it clearly". His anger had reached its peak now. He shook her by her arms and screamed at her, "You want to listen clearly so just listen. I know that you... that you... that you are dating that fatso PKC", Her eyes shot open and she screamed "WHAT??? Have you lost it? Are you crazy? Is there some sort of damage in the wiring of your brain? How can you even think that Me and PKC? Ewweee... Yuck... your thoughts are so cheap"
"Just shut your mouth. I've heard your conversation with that fatso. And I also know you were smiling... no not smiling but laughing when that PKC said I Love you. Not I but you are cheap. Do you even know that fatso is 20 YEARS older than you." He said it with lots of difficulty.
She now understood the reason behind his all so weird behavior. But she thought of playing a game with him.
"Oh. So you came to know about it. I tried my best to hide this from everyone", she said smirking inwardly. The tears that he had held from a long time came down rolling on his cheeks. She felt bad looking at his state and decided to tell him the truth.
"Vardhan, I had no intention to hurt you, I was kidding. Just as you were in the morning. She laughed. He looked at her with disbelief. "What. You were kidding. But what about that fatso... umm... I mean PKC? Does he know that you were kidding" he asked with new hopes and curiosity.

FLASHBACK
PKC enters Maya's cabin.
Maya: What's the problem PKC?
PKC: Maya... I mean mam yeh dekho. Yeh student's ne mere saath kaisa ghatiya mazak kiya hai.
Maya: Kya mazak?
PKC: Mam. In logon ne mere cabin mein yeh bouquet rakha aur isme ek note rahki. Jispe likha hai...
Maya: Kya likha hai? Just say it PKC.
PKC: I Love You
Maya started laughing at this
Maya (self thought): So what does this idiot think that students really mean it? He's so funny.
(At this time Vardhan by passed the cabin and heard half of their convo and misunderstood it.
END OF FLASHBACK
Maya was still laughing her heart out.
She said between her giggles, "You were jealous coz of this. How funny" And she started laughing again. "Aa... I wasn't jealous. I just didn't want you to take some wrong decision." he tried protecting himself. "Oh really. Are you joking again? This time I will take it seriously", she said in a serious tone. "No. Please don't." he said without thinking as he didn't want to risk her this time. He soon realized what he had said and they broke out into laughter. He stole a glance at her and she was looking like a demi-goddess as she was laughing. Vardhan held her hand in his. She looked at him with utter surprise.
"...", she tried speaking but he asked her to be quiet. "If you want to say some thing then just repeat what I say", she said smiling. "And what are you going to say?", she asked as if she didn't knew anything. "I love you", he whispered in her ear. She widely smiled and hugged him in excitement. "You didn't repeat." He complained as he hugged her back. "I repeated", she said casually. "When?" he asked raising his brows. "When you didn't hear me repeating", she said and broke out into laughter again.
